93 Mini Intermittent stalling and starting problems
I have a 93 Rover Mini, automatic, 1.3 engine. Haven't had it too long, but it recently started having trouble starting and will stall on me in the middle of driving, seemingly unrelated to weather, heat of engine or pressing on accelerator. Sometimes it will start first time no problem, but more likely it will start and then immediately die, or will take several times to finally start. Doesn't matter if cold start or not. When it stalls it will usually start again immediately or within 2-3 tries. Spark plugs and battery have been replaced and we've brought it to a Mini mechanic but they couldn't find anything wrong and couldn't duplicate problem. They checked the obvious signs, but no obvious problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We have taken the following actions to correct the problem (with no success):
1) replaced fuel pump (I believe unnecesarily)
2) replaced temperature probe on top of engine block (also no apparent impact on problem)
3) repaired leaking o-rings for heater inside vehicle (coolant was leaking onto electrical connectors - all connectors were disconnected and cleaned, reconnected)
4) replaced battery
I don't know if there is an automatic theft shut-off on these cars that disables the car after a short drive - I haven't seen any definitive literature on this.
