2003 Ford Focus stalls
Austin, Are there any stored trouble codes to help diagnose? Has regular maintenance been done, fuel filter, air filter, clean MAF, plug wires, plugs, injectors cleaned.
Check for vacuum leaks and your PVC hose it may be collapsing (seems to be a common problem on this vehicle). Remove and clean EGR. Check the attached links, instruction and guides on why Focus stalls. Good luck

i have ford focus ghia 2.0 2002 model and i have problem with the fuel pump sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.. when i fill the tank petrol pores out, the pipe next to the filter also comes out, how do i fix the problem?
OUR 2003 FOCUS WAS IDLEING PROGRESSIVE WORSE TRIED PLUGS AND AIR AND FUEL FILTERS STILL NO LUCK. A FRIEND OF A FRIEND WORKS ON CARS ,I ASKED IF THERE WAS A COMMON FOCUS PROBLEM. YES THERE IS A RUBBER ELBOW ON THE BACK OF THE ENGINE NEAR THE FIREWALL THAT OFTEN CRACKS WITH AGE AND ALSO SUCKS IN ON ITSELF . IF YOU FOLLOW THE BLACK HOSE AT DRIVERSIDE OF MOTOR COVER DOWN TO CENTER REAR OF ENGINE WILL FIND IT. IT WAS THE CAUSE OF OUR PROBLEM IDELING,$6.99 AT AUTOZONE -PCV ELBOW.
Assuming all vacuum and electrical connections are ok,replace the fuel filter. If already done, check for proper fuel pump operation. This is done by connecting a fuel pressure gauge to a fitting on the fuel rail.
I believe in 2003, we put a 100,000 mile Air filter assembly on the Focus to comply with California Zero emissions rule. Called PZEV. So, your filter should be a combination air filter/housing assembly that is sealed so no fuel vapors can escape. A new assmembly is over $150, so don't replace it unless you find one cheap on ebay. IF you really need one, I can get you one for 10% over cost. You can pay through Paypal.
