dont know anything about your car particually as im a brit, does sound like a relay though. if its automatic it could be a starter inhibit relay. i think i would find that relay and see if theres one near it the same you can swap it with just to see, there should be mumbers near the pins- if you swap make sure there in the same place first, the only other obvious thought is its the starter solinoid or relay clicking due to low battery power jon.

I have the same problem. I replaced the ignition cylinder and switch, checked the ignition coil, starter, battery and cables, the shift lever

    position/contacts, but still won't start.

But when I pushed back down one of the relays located beside the

fuses under the dash (driver side), the van starts. The relay apparently

    became loose from the sockets.

    TRY THIS!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Is Supertech 50/50 universal antifreeze okay to use in a 1996 saturn sl1? Also, how do you add antifreeze after the old has been drained?

Yes, that should be fine, especially if you have drained the system. Fill your rad, wait to see if it goes down on it's own then top up. Turn heater on full and start the car with the rad cap off. Keep adding until coolant isn't going down. Once the engine comes up to operating temperature, replace rad cap. Then shut down car and let it cool down. Then once it has cooled down, top up coolant reservoir to full mark.

Make sure rad cap is back on the rad before shutting down the car as it will overflow hot coolant all over if not...

not likely it is more than likely the waterpump, make sure the thermostat was not put in upside down. if fan is not kicking on it is a fuse or coolant switch for the fan

99 cadillac seville continues to overheat even though i put a new water pump

maybe the water pump wasnt the problem to begin with. if the engine temperature only goes up when you stop the car then most likely it is the FANS that are not engaging to cool the radiator which is a problem with the fan sensor, computer that controls the fans, relay/fuse. I had the same problem on my 1999 cady STS coming back from my vacation. the engine temperature would be normal only when I drove the car above 70km/hr because the air passing through the front of the car would cool the radiator. when I slowed down the fans wouldnt start and no air was passing through to cool the rad, hence the engine temperature would start to go to HOT. good luck.

2002 Dodge Neon wont start when warmed up

The starter is most likely bad and needs to be replaced, either the solenoid or motor are binding when it heats up and the parts expand,I can't pinpoint the exact cause because you haven't indicated if you hear the solenoid click wwhen you try to start it warm.I realize the starter has been replaced, but with a remanufactured unit they are not tested when they are warm and a bad unit will pass and be rebuilt.

99 couger 2.5L 6 Cyl-temp gauge maxing out, overheating

I will normally remove rad cap when cool. Start engine, set heater in car to heat & turn on blower, if you use defrost setting, the rad fan &/or AC fan will come on, and you don't want that. Then while running with cap off, make sure coolant in rad is an inch or 2 from top of rad, and let it run. When engine gets to normal operating temperature on the gauge, you'll start to see more flow in radiator, and rad fan should come on shortly after, to cool the incoming hot liquid in the rad, that tells you the thermostat opened as it should, and the process starts again, engine coolant gets to temp, thermostat opens, hot goes to top of rad for cooling, and cooler liquid goes out the bottom to engine, etc etc. If your heater is not on while doing this, the coolant doesn't get to heater core in most cases, thus creates an airlock, or will cause level in rad to go down when it is turned on, and thus reduces amount of coolant in rad, plus airlocks in the entire system. So, let it run to the point that the rad fan comes on & off on it's own, about 3 times, while you watch the gauge, to make sure it doesn't overheat, if it does, shut it off and let it cool down & try again. if all appears good, top rad up if needed to an inch or so from top, put your cap on properly, add coolant to proper level in return bottle & try it and see what happens. Remember though, I am assuming thermostat was put in correctly, rad in good shape, fan is working properly as well as water pump doing it's job. If this method doesn't work, get back to me with results.

if your fan is coming when you shut your car off then it is likly your fan relay or a bad ground.Does it overheat when there is flow through the rad(when your driving on highway)or is it in town.
