Question about 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

I put in a new stereo and everything went great and worked. Now the cluster light went out and the tempeture gauge light went out. I checked the fuses and everything is good, so now i'm puzzled.

Lights on istrument cluster and heat/ac control went out on 2002 1500 silverado ls

Hi William, I'm glad to help!

William, after working in the automotive field for over 40 years I can tell you that most electrical problems that occur after someone has installed a stereo system comes from a fuse blown somewhere in the system. Take a test light and check all the fuses first if you find one blown replace it and see if everything starts working again. If everything starts working again then your fine, BUT, if its still not working then don't stop there because more then one fuse may have been blown keep going until all fuses have been checked. Hope this helps and have an awesome day William.

Hi William, I'm glad to help!

William, before running after another cluster I'd make certain that the fuse was not blown during the stereo installation. Check all fuses first with a test light just to make sure. Hope this helps and have an awesome day William.

I would check the dash lights fuse first. If the fuse is good and the circuit has voltage, you may have toasted the dimmer control.

I have a 2005 Envoy, the fuel gauge does not work when full, always reads empty. The stereo only works when it is over 100 degrees and dry outside, the warning sounds (i.e. seatbelt, lights etc) are not...

Gauges and speedometer wont work fuses are good gas gauge tempeture gauge speedometer just stopedworking

There is most likely a bad connection at the cluster, remove the dash cluster, and check the connection to it,you may have to tighten the connectors up so they will fit tighter.

Instrument cluster going dead after airbag light comes on

I had the exact same issue with my 1999 cherokee. None of the gauges worked, the red airbag light was on, the horn didn't work etc.... After going to several different mechanics, it was determined that i had a bad ECM computer. I got online, went to autocomputer exchange.com, got a remanufactured computer, put it in... and all the gauges now work. I highly recommend doing this, because the dealership will screw you for almost $1000 for a new computer... whereas, I paid only $225 for the one from autocomputer exchange. Anyhow, everything works great now.

Instrument panel went dead

Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task). This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).
