1999 chev cavalier has high beam only, no day running, no low beam. Fuses for headlights are good.

I'm glad to hear someone else has the same problem! I have no daytime running lights, and no low beams. This all started about a year ago. Driving with low beams, someone told me I had a head light out. I planned to get a headlight but within a week neither low beams would work and I didn't have Daytime Running Lights. So, I've just been driving with high beams because I've had no luck with repairs. I've replaced the bulbs, fuses, head light switch, Daytime Running Light relay in the engine compartment and all other applicable fuses according to a repair manual. NO LUCK! Last week I noticed I had a high beam out. I replaced the bulb and...you guessed it...NO LUCK! I've stopped driving it at night cause I'm afraid the only working light's days are numbered. I am completely stumped!

Well...lets start with the obvious. Check fuses and NEVER piggyback any stereo or security stuff into their fuses...you dont want the lights to shut down during a night drive!!
Check under the hood for a relay center...also has some fuses there as well.

The Daytime Running Lamps are a "straight through wiring configuration". Doubt it even goes through a headlight switch at all.
But the regular lights do.
Unless you've worked on the front of the car and forgot to plug the headlights back in, do this...
Turn the light switch on...looking at the instrument cluster , can you make the high-beam-indicator light come on?
As you rotate the headlight switch knob...does the instrument panel lights brighten or dim? You probably have a faulty headlight switch...auto stores have them...they simply plug in.

SOURCE: Drl and high beams dont work

Check the bulbs -- the daytime running lamps use the highbeams on the resistor -- There are two filliments per bulb one high; one low. If both high beam filliments are out nothing will work....replace bulbs if this is the case.

As you described the problem the solution is to replace the headlight bulbs, they have two elements one for normal lighting or low beam and one for high beams. the elements for the low beams are continuously used and are subject to burn sooner.

The blinking light is telling you that you have a headlight out, if you look the service light should be coming on when the light stops blinking.
Replace the head light and all should be fine.

My daytime running lights work, high beams will come on but switch wont stay on, have to hold it. Low beams do not work and daytime running light dash indicator stays on all the time. Is it a relay or...

if you have to hold the switch so the high beams stay on then that indicates a bad/worn switch, you could have 2 problems the day time running light relay may have a problem with it.i would first replace the headlight switch at the base of the steering colume as by the info you supply its not changing to the high beam side without holding the switch in position.

2002 Dodge Caravan headlamps: one works on dim the other works on high beam but not together. Also only one daytime running lamp.

Your van has dual diligent headlamp bulbs, that means each headlight has one bulb that serves as high beam and low beam. What has most likely happened is on one side the low beam filament has burnt out, and on the other side the high beam filiment has burnt out. The daytime running lights are just the high beam filament running on reduced power, so if the high beam doesn't work on one side, that same side will have no daytime running light. Replace both headlamp bulbs with matching, good quality bulbs.

perhaps i missed something here... lowbeams and daytime lights are about the same.... be that as it may... the merely obvious thing is that the low beams are burnt out.... next thing would be that the relay for the day time lights could be defective... it's often mounted on the firewall.
