My 04 volvo xc90 leaking power steering fluid at night

I found a puddle of power steering fluid on the garage floor after filling it the night before upon hearing a loud power steeing noise while driving. i saw the power steering fluid on the electrical connections that were close to the reservoir. is it easy to replace the reservoir or hose? would I need to bleed the power steering system?

I have the exact same problem with my 2004 XC90 T6. I'm not sure of the source, IE: if it's a hose, res, etc. This far I really can't tell but am trying putting Lucas Oil power steering stop leak as I hear it is really great stuff.

I have the same problem with 05 XC90 2.5T.. It seems like there is a problem with the power steering pump. And the only way to fix it is to change the pump. Now i'm trying to use the lucas stop leaking thing as well and will see what happens.

Same problem on my xc90. I'd replace the problem and not let it fester. The shop near my house (firestone) told me 5.5 hours to replace the hose and fitting at about $100 an hour. Here's what I'd do: Clean the engine in the area of the leak (wipe it down with rags or use a degreaser and hose it off - just be careful with the water). Get some dye made specifically to diagnose leaks and pour it into your reservoir. start the car and turn the wheels back and forth for about 30 seconds. turnd the engine off and look for any area where the bright dye might appear. If it's at the hose/fitting either replace it yourself of have a mechanic handle it. If it appears on the pully, it's probably a seal in the pump. Replacing either is not too difficult if you have any experience replacing bolt-on engine parts. The pump is easy to find - the hose might be a different story.

I just found my leak, it was the larger of the two hoses that goes into the resevoir. It was not even snug let alone tight. I tightened it and it appears to have fixed the problem.

2005 volvo xc90 2.9 l smell gas in garage after filling up

Hello, I know you posted this question almost a year ago and I don't know if you have your answer yet. I just wanted to let you know we had a similar problem after purchasing a used 2003 Volvo XC90 earlier this year for my daughter to drive around, and found out that there was an outstanding recall on it due to the fumes from the gas tank. It had something to do with the fuel lines, and and the fuel tank, and being in a southern state (in which we are) I would suggest checking to see if your car falls into this category.

I have no power steering and I see a puddle of red liquid on the ground.

Hi,

That red puddle is the fluid that leaks out from your power steering.

There are some possible leakage, it maybe in your powwr steering hose, pump, and rack and pinion.

The only way you could determine where the leakage is to have your car checked by a technician/mechanic.

Try to put some haydraulic fluid in the power steering conatiner, so that you could go to the garage and have them fix it.

Thanks for using Fixya and helping you out!

Power steering fluid completly leaked out while driving

sounds like either a high pressure hose or low pressure return line that leaked the fluid. Or the rack and pinion system. Check for oil around the different components by filling it up with the power steering fluid at the pump.

Ford mondeo 1.8 td diesel, the problem is the power steering fluid is leaking, when i check it look like it was coming from the middle part of the radiator.how can i fix it and what parts do i need to get...

Have a look at the power steering fluid cooler it is just in front of the radiator behind the front bumper. The coolers corrode and leak. Also the seals can go, check for fluid leaking out of the boots at the track rods. Try this procedure :--- 1)Trace the source of the leak. Use a mirror on an extended handle to follow the puddle of fluid on your garage floor to the power steering system. Look on the hoses and gaskets to find from where the fluid could be leaking. 2) Add power steering stop leak additive to your power steering fluid. Lucas Power Steering Stop Additive is 100 percent guaranteed to stop seal leaks. In older cars, the seals shrink, causing leaks. The stop leak makes the seals swell to their original size. 3) Use gasket sealant if the gaskets are old and leaking. Sealant, such as Permatex, is resistant to engine fluids, and will help repair a leaky gasket. 4) Replace the gasket, if the gasket sealant does not work. Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Volvo xc90 2004 buzzing in steering wheel, clunck noise under car

that sounds like you are low on power steering fluid ... when the level gets low then the pump starts to ingest air and that produces a buzzing sound when you turn the wheel .....i would add or change the fluid and check for leaks and mechanical loosness in the under car linkages ...you can have that checked at your next oil change .
