Trunk torsion rod instalation 2004 chevy cavalier

This is rather hard to describe in words with out a picture. But here goes...

With the trunk lid propt safely open and the hinges in place, place one torsion bar in position so the end with the "U" end is by the hinge. The hinge has a link on it with a hook. The hook connects to the "U". Once connected, do the other hinge/bar. Last step is to place tension on the bars by postitioning the "L" end in one of the slots. You may need to do a trial-by-error in the different slots to acheive correct tension to keep the lid in the open position

Trunk lid wont shut evenly on 2000 nissan altima

is this recent or a long time condition? there is no track to speak of just hinged arms but the bolts in the hinges can come loose and cause the lid to be off kilter. I would check all the bolts to see if they are tight.

How would I got about fixing My Trunk? It was backed out of a car barn and the trunk was popped causing it to fly upwards and get broke off when backing out. Should I just replace it totally or is the

I think it would be cheaper to replace it with a used one but then painting will be needed, i guess it all depends on how bad this trunk is, another problem is is the hinges are damaged, if it ripped the trunk right off the car then there must be damage to hinges also. i would try to get one the same color if you can and also get hinges if there are bent or damaged. get a used one. if the color is not the same then check and see if it is cheaper to paint it off the car before you install it, good day.

I have a 2005 Dodge neon that seems to retain water in trunk area where spare tire is located. why is this?

I can tell you why....because it does this in my stratus!!!!

The trunk lid hinges are letting water into your trunk. All the water pools up in and under the spare, the trunk carpet is wet.....more than likely the driver's side of the trunk....pull that trunk carpet back from where that trunk hinge is mounted to the body, reach under there and feel all the water dripping in!

The fix? Unbolt those hinges and put silicone sealant around those bolts and mounts.....that'll take care of that crummy leak.....DODGES!!!!!

My Brake lights don't work

2004 Rx8 kept blowing 15amp brake light fuse. Solution: wire going to rear lights was worn and frayed where it feeds through the left trunk lip on left side of trunk. This can be seen when you open the trunk lid. The wire routes by the trunk lid hinge. If the support connectors come loose, the wires are crunched by the hinge or lid. Re-splice, insulate, zip-tie, replace fuse and replace any blown bulbs.

Replacing trunk lid and hinges

yes but most can be done by ahnd or witha vice grips. Just try to lift the rod and see how much tension you have. you only should have to lift about an inch to get it out of the slot and then release the tension.

Trunk stuck open

Is the lid bent? If not, the hinges are. You will likely need to remove the offending hinge, straighten it and then replace it.

Trunk lid is very stiff to open/close

the hinges for the trunk will need replacing. not the shocks. about $60 a piece from VW. do it yourself about 4 bolts. just get someone to hold the trunk for you. its not necessary to paint the new hinges
