Can't remove left front wheel

I've got the lub nuts off and the car jacked up, but the wheel won't budge. Is there another nut under the hub?

No. Spray a little WD 40 arond the hole and let it soak for a while then just give it a good kick.

If the car is front wheel drive a puller is required to dismantle the hub a rather involved job better left to a mechanic .If rear wheel drive do the following. ( Applies to front wheel drive also.) Chock rear wheels,loosen front wheel nuts, jack up car, fit safety stands,remove wheel , remove grease cap from axle. remove split pin or locking nut on axle ,Remove hub, with a punch drive out the grease seal ,the tapered cone bearings can now be removed, the 2 bearing cups still in the housing will have to be pressed out ,all old grease has to be cleaned out. the new cones must be repacked with high temp bearing grease . tap in the seal with the lip facing inwards , slide on the hub fit the outer cone to the axle , the spacer and nut goes on next, tighten the nut to seat the bearings , spin the hub make sure its free to spin, back off the nut one eighth of a turn fit a new split pin or lock tab. fit grease cap and road wheel.

How to dismantnle axle on 89 honda civic


CAUTION: It is advisable to get this job done by a qualified technician otherwise you will take the consequences.
Do the following job at your own risk.

- Place the car on a level floor.
- Pull up the hand brake.
- Block the rear wheels with wheel stoppers, wooden blocks or bricks.
- Call a friend or relative to depress the foot brake, turn the steering wheel little towards left side and put the car in 4th gear.
- Loosen the axle nut force fully (large one in the center of wheel) with a socket and double extension rod.
- Loosen the four wheel nuts.
- Lift up the front left wheel with Jack, place a support under the strong chassis and remove the jack.
- Remove all the wheel nuts and remove the front left wheel.
- Place a container or tray under the inner CV joint to preserve the transmission oil which will come out unavoidably during the axle removal.
- Remove the lower ball joint nut.
- Remove the tie rod end.
- You don't have to remove the hub completely but to release it a little.
- Pull the hub out by pressing the CV joint in and take the outer end of the CV joint out of the hub.
- Place a strong long chisel like lever between the inner CV joint cup and the transmission and push the cup away from the transmission to take the lock out of its host.

Ford Escape 2006 lug nuts are off but the tire won't budge


Aluminum wheels, huh? VERY common problem. I use a VERY LARGE rubber mallot at the shop to "beat" the wheels of when they are corroded into place like that. If you have the vehicle on a jack-stand, you can also start one of the wheel nuts onto the stud a few turns just to keep the tire from flying off and hurting somebody....then sit down on the ground and KICK HARD to break the wheel loose from the hub. Just make sure the vehicle is properly supported so it does not come crashing down.

If you can manage to get the thing loose, It will help in the future if you sand the inside of the wheel center hole a little and coat it with anti-seize compound before reinstalling it on the vehicle.

How do I remove the castle nut on the hub assembly of my 2001 Dodge Ram? I need to replace the hub but I can't get the castle nut to budge. Impact guns and breaker bars won't move it at all.


the nut that you are trying to undo may be a left hand thread ( anti clockwise to undo ) try it that way to see if it loosens it ........cheers.

I NEED THE STEPS OF TAKING OUT A TRANSMISSION OUT OF MY 1994 HONDA ACCORD


  1. Remove the hub cap and bolt the wheel back in.
  2. Punch out the spindle nut lock and loosen the spindle nut.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle and block the rear tires.
  4. Remove the wheel.
  5. Drain the transmission.
  6. Remove the all the damper fork nuts and all the brake hose nuts on the damper fork and on the shock absorber.
  7. Remove the damper fork.
  8. Remove the driver side and passenger side front suspension flange nut inside the engine bay and slide the upper arm out
  9. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the passenger side and remove the passenger drive shaft spline from the hub.
  10. Separate the inner driveshaft from the transmission with a large screw driver (or crow bar).
  11. Remove the passenger side drive shaft. Do not pull.
  12. Remove the front radius rod.

Under the car.

  1. Remove the center beam.
  2. Remove the torque converter cover, the control cable holder and remove shift control cable.
  3. Remove the drive plate bolts and four transmission housing bolts.

Inside the engine bay.

  1. Place a transmission jack or several small jacks under the transmission.
  2. Disconnect all the electrical connectors.
  3. Remove the speed sensor gear shaft but leave the hoses on.
  4. Remove the distributor and mark the distributor shaft with a razor or a diamond etcher, usually on the head side or both.
  5. Remove the throttle control lever cable.
  6. Remove the transmission cooler hoses mounting bolts and their 4 washers.
  7. Remove the starter.
  8. Remove the all the transmission housing bolts.
  9. If the transmission won't come out remove a horizontal side engine mounting bolt and raise oil pan (with a wooden block between the oil pan and jack) until the transmission clears.
  10. Lower the transmission into the transmission jack.
  11. With the driver side front suspension flange out of the way, turn the steering towards the right then remove the driver side inner drive shaft with a large flathead screw driver.
  12. Lower the low profile transmission jack and slide the transmission and the jack from under the car. Don't loose the two dowel pins.
  13. Block all transmission fluid ports from leakage and dust and dirt.
  14. If repairs are being done repair the transmission in a dust, sand free environment.

I need to know how to replace the hub bearings on my grand am


The front wheel bearings on this car come as a sealed unit inside the wheel hub.
things you will need to replace them
-torque specs for your cars axle nut, hub retaining bolts, brake caliper mounting bracket bolts, and wheel lug nuts.
-a socket set
-a breaker bar
-a axle nut socket
-a c-clamp
-a jack
-two jack stands

To complete the job follow these steps
1) remove the hub cap/wheel center cap
2) remove the axle nut cap (use the tip of a small flat screwdriver to pry up one edge, pull it off)
3) remove the cotter pin from the end of the axle shaft
4) using a breaker bar style wrench (non-ratcheting socket wrench) with a helper pipe slid over the end to increase leverage use an axle nut socket to loosen the axle nut without removing it.(these are torqued pretty tight and can be stubborn, don't be afraid to use a generous amount of penetrating fluid).
5) once the nut is loose, loosen the wheel lug nuts
tip: doing steps 4 and 5 is made easier with the weight of the car on the ground to keep the wheel from spinning while you loosen the nuts.
6) jack up one corner of the car, and support it with a jack stand. lower the jack to rest the weight of the car on the jack stand, then lift the jack back up to contact the cars jacking point, without taking the weight off the jack stand. leave the jack in place as added support.
7) remove the wheel
8) remove the brake caliper from the hub (if you remove the caliper mounting bracket with the caliper still attached as a unit it's only two bolts to remove it together) hang it from the strut spring with some heavy wire or a metal clothes hanger being sure not to pinch or kink the brake line in the process.
9) remove the brake disc/rotor
10) locate the wheel speed sensor (a small electronic box located on the back side of the wheel hub) a small bolt secures it to the hub, remove the bolt and move the sensor to the side out of your way.
11) locate and remove the three hub retaining bolts (reachable from the rear of the hub)
12) remove the axle nut and use a jack stand to support the axle shaft
13) use a "soft blow" hammer (if possible) to tap on the back side at the outer edges of the hub working your way around in a circle so as to drive the hub out of its housing/steering knuckle evenly. As the hub comes out of the housing/steering knuckle the axle will want to slide with it, in turn pulling the axle out of the transmission. try not to let this happen. if necessary tap lightly on the end of the axle shaft to free it from the hub, once the hub comes loose remove it. this is where supporting the axle with a jack stand comes in handy. try not to allow the axle to scratch the hub mating surface.
14)clean the cavity that the hub came out of, remove the axle shaft support jack stand as you slide the new hub into place lining up the axle and the holes where the hub retaining bolts go (if you just shove it in, it can be impossible to turn it to line up the bolt holes) be sure that it is seated tightly against the steering knuckle, and that the axle is all the way into place. put the axle nut on but do not tighten it yet
14) replace the hub retaining bolts and torque to specs
15) replace the wheel speed sensor
16) replace the rotor/brake disc
17) replace the brake caliper and mounting bracket unit, this may require you to spread the brake pad pistons (this is easiest with a c-clamp slowly squeezing the piston open so as to not create too much pressure in the brake line or master cylinder). if a c-clamp is not available a large pair of channel lock pliers can do the job. once its in place, torque the caliper bracket mounting bolt to specs
18) raise the car off the jack stand, tighten the axle nut to snug and replace the wheel, remove the jack stand and lower the car to the ground.
19) torque the axle nut to specs
20) replace the axle shaft cotter pin and axle nut cap
21) torque the wheel lug nuts to specs
this should complete one side so switch your tools and equipment to the other side of the car and repeat the process. i hope this helps

How do i remove the front wheel bearing?


Replacing a front wheel bearing on a front-wheel drive car is not usually very easy to do. Typically, you remove the tire and then remove the nut on the end of the drive axle. (The nut is usually pretty big - maybe 27mm as a guess. It's also very tight. The spec for this car is 120lbf, or roughly 2x as tight as a lug nut. If you don't have the right socket and breaker bar/ratchet/impact driver, go buy one.) Next, you remove the brake caliper and disk. You can then use a hammer/punch to free the end of the axle from the wheel bearing (you probably do not need to completely remove it, just budge it loose from the splines). Finally, the wheel bearing is usually just held in with ~4 bolts. If you've got the axle out of the bearing, it should come off fairly easily.

This job does usually require a few specialized tools, but is not too difficult. The hardest part is usually getting the nut off the axle and freeing the axle from the splines in the wheel hub. Just be sure to properly support the car with jack stands, because you'll be really tweaking on some of those nuts, and you don't want the car to be unstable.

Replacing front left wheel bearing of chevrolet venture


before removning tire loosen lug nuts and axle nuts a little bit not all the way .to loosen axle nut you need a 1/2 inch break bar with deep socket or 1/2 battery power impact wrench.then raise vechicle use jack stands block rear wheels .then remove wheel disconnect wheel speed sensor .remove brake caliper and bracket then rotor .half shaft bolt.you need a tool remove front hub and bearings as a unit.from axle shaft.
