Engine cut off and will not start again,2001 kia sportage

Drinving home the onther night, my kia just died on me. When this happened the engine started to lose power then seem to recoverer a couple of times, made a couple of bangs like the sound of a belt breaking and slapping around and then just died. the engine will turn over but will not fire up. I have noticed a loud eclectrical hum comeing from my rear coil pack when I turn the key in the start postion. I checked the fuel pump and it is pumping. could I have broken my timeing belt, and if so , what kind of damge could this have caused inside the engine

Loaderman61, I just had a similar problem that the person you responded to except that I tried turning over the engine once after it died on me and it started up again and ran for about a minute after sitting for a few minutes but died again. If I were to turn the engine over right now, I'd get an electrical motor winding sound that would turn in to a squeal like when you try starting your motor again when the engine is already running.

I was told that because it had started up that one time that it couldn't be the timing belt. Mine has 108,000 miles on it, so I am concerned about the timing belt, but could my problem be in the fuel line somewhere?

As I was coming down the freeway it was kind of losing power I made it home and went to the store when I tried to start it there was no sound not even any clicking the engine just would not turn over, it is not the battery

Recently my sportage has started dying almost everytime I stop. if Im sitting at a light for more than a min, its starts idleing funny, shakes a little, and then dies. It always starts again right away,...

If there is a check engine light, have the codes read,it is most likely a miss fire on one of the four cylinders,if this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.

I would see if you can go to a auto parts they can read the code that will help it might be a alternator which you local parts store can check for free while its on the car.

I have a 1997 kia overheating i have removed the thermostat

You have to install a new Thermostat because if the motor has no water pump thermostat sends all the coolant to the radiator and therefore the engine never warmed and you will not have heat because the coolant never be heated

2001 Kia Sportage overheated and died. Repaired crackk in radiator problem, but now car cranks but won't start. Any suggestions?

It may have overheated to a point that damage was done to the engine. Have a trusted mechanic check it out. Good Luck.

Hold light flashing on dash.

We unhooked the battery and left it unhooked all night. This morning when he reconnected it and started it, it started right up and the hold light and our check engine light went off. We did press the hold button and it came on and went back off when we hit it again.

2001 kia sportage wont start

Jumped time. If it runs ruff I would do that too much, you could bend a value.

Fairly common problem, you just need a new timing belt.
