I am totally turned off to Lincoln vehicles, since I brought the car in twice to fix the problem and have been told they can't fix it. The part is no longer available from Ford. My car has a distance data error message that comes on when I hit a bump. Then eventually when I hit another bump it will go away. When it's up I also lose my power steering, which is a safety issue. Lincoln basically pushes me out the door, they don't want to deal with it. If anyone knows which parts to change I'd appreciate it.

The switch contacts are probably dirty. They can be cleaned if you can remove the switches without disassembling the door. Not familiar enough with the Suburban to know how easily this can be done.

SOURCE: Why does my instrument cluster black out a lot?

Having the same problem with my 2001 Merc Cougar, When does it black out? While reving or randomly? Mine is while heavy accelerating. Could be over voltage at the charging system (alternator or regulator) or internal in the cluster. Get the alternator and batt tested first, ask for a load test, then try the cluster next.

SOURCE: my 95 lincoln continental wont start i replaced

If it has no spark you might try to replace the ign. module by the drivers side hood hinge attached to fender . Bought this part at pull a part for less than ten dollars. Put it on and cranked right up. Be sure t seal the water out when replacing.

Your vehicle could have a ground issue , could have power issue , could have a control module issue . It needs to be hooked up to the factory scan tool ! It is for sure it has a communication problem on the SCP data bus , do you know what serial data communication is ?
The vehicle has 3 module communication networks:
  • the standard corporate protocol (SCP) communications network
  • the international standards organization (ISO) 9141 communications network
  • the universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) based protocol (UBP) communications network
The diagnostic tool connects to all 3 networks through the data link connector (DLC). This makes diagnosis and testing of these systems easier by allowing one diagnostic tester to be able to diagnose and control any module on the 3 networks from one connector. The DLC can be found under the instrument panel between the steering column and the radio.
The SCP communications network will remain operational even with the severing of one of the bus wires. Communications will also continue if one of the bus wires is shorted to ground or voltage, or if some but not all termination resistors are lost. The SCP communications network allows inter-module communication.
The ISO 9141 communications network does not permit intermodule communication. When the diagnostic tool communicates to modules on the ISO 9141 communication network, the diagnostic tool must request all information, or initiate module commands.
The ISO 9141 communications network will not function if the wire is shorted to ground or battery voltage. Also, if one of the modules on the ISO 9141 communications network loses power or shorts internally, communications to that module will fail.
The UBP communications network will not function if the wire is shorted to ground or voltage. The UBP is different from the ISO communication network in that it allows intermodule communication.

The speed sensor is bad, replace it. It is on the transmission. Could be wiring also. No year make or model...

Acadia 2009 code C0561 what does it mean?

You won't find this information in a Haynes manual ! I know , I work for a GMC dealership , along with Chevy and Cadillac ! this information I'm adding is right out of GMC service information .

DTC C0561 74: System Disabled Information Value of Signal Protection Calculation Incorrect

Circuit/System Description
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) receives serial data messages from the body control module (BCM), engine control module (ECM), instrument panel cluster (IPC), and the transmission control module (TCM) which are needed to perform antilock brake system (ABS), vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES), or traction control system (TCS) functions.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is greater than 10 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The EBCM receives an invalid serial data message from another module.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
?€¢
The EBCM disables the traction control system (TCS)/ vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES).

?€¢
A DIC message and/or a warning indicator may be displayed.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC
?€¢
The condition for the DTC is no longer present.

?€¢
The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Diagnostic Aids
This DTC indicates that there are no problems in the EBCM. The BCM, ECM, IPC and the TCM should be checked for a possible fault.

  1. With a scan tool, view the Invalid Signal Data Display.
  2. If no invalid signal are present, view Signal Fault Data in the Enhanced DTC Data.
  3. Refer to appropriate module for diagnosing the invalid message data.
  4. Do not replace the EBCM due to this DTC fault.
You would need a factory scan tool or equivalent too diagnose this ,not a code reader . So do your self a favor an take to a dealership. I've been doing this for thirty years .

LINCOLN LS 2003 CODE U1039

This code means the vehicle speed signal has been lost over the vehicles communication network. The generic scanners that Autozone uses most of the time will not retrieve transmission or ABS system codes. There will be more codes stored in the ABS module and the PCM that will identify where the speed signal is missing. It could be one of the wheel speed sensors or a module concern. You will need to have the vehicle scanned at a shop that has a high end scanner that can retrieve codes from all of the vehicle's modules as well as monitor input data from the speed sensors. All dealers and many repair facilities will have a scanner with these capabilities.

If you feel any slippage from the transmission then do not drive it except to have it repaired. If the Advance Track warning is on the ABS could be off line also if the problem is a hard fault. The brakes will still function normally but the ABS could be offline.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day and Merry X-mas.

What does dtc code u1039 mean, for the sevrice engine light. On a 2001, Lincoln Town Car, 4.6L, V8

Hello, This Code means the vehicle speed sensor is not putting out a signal to one of the components. The connector could be wet or corroded or the bad could just be bad.

Just got a 2001 Lincon Towncar /Exec-L series from a friend. The ABS, Check engine & Brake lights kept coming on & off. Ran codes and got U1039 & P0306. Replaced the #6 Coil and all plugs(P0306...

Congratulations on getting it to run like a champ.

The ABS light is likely due to a bad wheel speed sensor, which would be consistent with the speedometer coming and going.

Try to get an Actron Brakescan Tool for about $99 or so plus shipping, and you can scan the codes and get English explanations of which circuit is bad.

I purchased one to diagnose and repair a 1997 Cadillac Deville. The Actron Brakescan tool covers most American vehicles from 1996 to 2005. So, this diagnosis should be right up the alley of this tool.

One can go from there as far as checking out the sensors and the wiring more closely.
