Except ours doesn't always stay on full. About 10 minutes prior to the running completely out of gas, our guage will jump to 3/4 of a tank and then dance back and forth between there and full. We haven't replaced the gas guage yet, but plan to soon.

2005 Chevrolet Cavalier with the same issue.

+ mine is more of the dancing as "Guest" has said - it goes back and forth between Full, to below Empty to 3/4 - etc....and is different every time I turn my car on/off.

I was having same issue. The cluster was the part which had to be replaced to repair it. Did they replace the cluster on your? It has to be the entire cluster I was told.

Gas gauge does not read well below half tank

More than likely a floater issue!! This is located within the gas tank and mounted to the fuel pump. It sends a unique signal depending on the amount of fuel within the tank determining fuel gauge readings. Its very possible the unit is defective causing improper gauge readings.

99 cavalier - the fuel gauge doesnt read accurately and it jumps

Possibly a bad ground wire at the sender on the tank,

Check for that first before tearing into the dash to replace the guage.

I have a 1999 cavalier i don't know what the gas

If the gauge reads full it is not the gas sending unit it is probably a blow fuse, and if you are not sure what you are doing with the ground wire on a gas tank you can blow your head off.

My gas gauge is always reading full why 1999 cavalier

Hi

The most likely cause is that the fuel sender in the tank is faulty or that the wiring to the sender is bad.

Less common causes are a faulty fuel guage or circuit in the instrument panel.

Test the sender as it is the most likely cause and easiest to eliminate.

First inspect all connections that are readily visible to insure that they are secure & free from dirt or corrosion.

Disconnect the fuel tank sender wire at the tank. The guage should continue to show full (ignition on). Ground the wire from the sending unit at the fuel tank to any good grounding point on the car. The gauge should go to "Empty". If it does this is a strong indicator that the sending unit is at fault.

Hope this helps. Please do rate my answer. Thanks
