There a simpler way of testing a alternator start your truck up while your trucks running disconnect your battery if your truck still runs then your alternators good if your truck shuts off then your alternators bad or is not working, also your battery light on your dash may come on that also another sign that your alternator has seen better days. I hope this helps.

Start vehicle and with vehicle running there should be at least 14 volts when tested at battery leads. If you don't have a volt meter may I suggest taking this vehicle to an AUTO-ZONE and they will test for FREE. They will test the entire charging system including battery and alternator and starter. Good Luck

How long did the 2nd alt. last before it died? The voltage regulator is, I believe, attached to the alternator. Have u had the voltage regulator checked?

First thing you should have done was check and test.NOT REPLACE PARTS.Did you test the battery to determine it needed to go? Had the starter failed to turn the engine over? The Alt supplies current to run the vehicle ,and keep the battery at the proper state of charge. How did you decide on ign wires verus the other ign components? Did it start and run okey ,before you added the after market alarm? If yes, I guess you know where some of the issues are!
