Try pushing on the top of the tailgate above the keyhole while turning the key and try it a few times. You may need a friend to really push on it while you turn the key. This was my problem until I put new I believe" Strike bars" that the latch goes around in both my front doors and tailgate. Now I dont have to push on it for key to work, but I still need a new switch. Give it a shot before anything else.

I have a 1996 toyota 4runner with power rear window. The window goes down and up fine but after you put it up then it goes back down one inch by itself -- any ideas ??

I had similar problem on my 98 4runner it would even go all the way down on its own . I removed the rear panels controller mount, unplugged all the harnesses at the controller to cleanly remove the upholster panel and the steel panel so I could plug the controller harnesses back in to trouble shoot it without having panels hanging and dangling. I actually had to drill a rivet on controller mount.

I removed the front panel switch from the circuit. You can reach in under by the emergency brake handle and pop the switch assembly out the unplug the switch. I used my 12 volt battery from my RV and applied 12 volts directly to the motor (Pos to red, minus to green) to raise it all the way up, this did not cure the problem for me so I put the up/down switch back in the circuit.

Next I had to unplug the harnesses again and raise the window again with the RV battery. With window raised all the way you can reach the plug to unplug the key switch and remove it from the circuit. This fixed it for me so I left the key switch on rear tailgate unplugged and it now works fine with just the front panel switch.

Hope this helps

Rear window on my 1987 ford bronco will not work

This has several possiblilitys, it could be the switch in the dash has gone out even if it does not work with the key in the tailgate. other possible item could be the window motor or a sensor that detects if the gate is up or down. check motor wires for power when the switch is activated by pulling off the panel on the tailgate, if it is getting power i would suggest replacing the motor. if not you may have to trace wires to the drivers side of the tail gate and find the sensor.i had to by pass mine a while ago. makes it much easier to clean the glass on the inside cause the window will roll up with the gate down.

My rear window won't operate. Can I manually lower the window? The dash switch nor the outside tailgate switch will operate the window. No blown fuse. What could be the problem?

Have had a few of these broncos, the rear window motor burns out on those pretty frequently. Check to see if you have power to the motor before replacing it but if your fuse is good and its not working then pretty sure it is the motor. There isn't a way to manually crank the window up but you can open the tailgate up to get to the internal components and disconnect the regulator from the glass then you can manually put the glass up and use a wedge of wood to hold the glass up. The proper fix is to replace the window motor.

Rear Window Malfunction on my 1993 Eddie Bauer Bronco I have a rear window problem on my 1993 Eddie Bauer Bronco. I rolled my rear window up last night with the rear key switch. Today it will not roll...

The dash switch can affect the operation of the rear key switch. 1st thing to do is replace the dash switch and that will prob fix it all.

1995 bronco rear windon won't work

You can try replacing the switch on the dash. If its the motor you will have to climb back and take apart some of the rear door to get to the motor. Its just 3 bolts to remove it. once its out you can lower the glass and open the door so its laying flat when you install the new one.
be sure to support the glass when its laying flat and extended ...I use large cardboard boxes under the glass

1987 toyota 4runner tailgate window stopped working

REMOVE THE REAR TRIM PANEL ON THE TAILGATE AND SEE IF THE MOTOR IS GETTING 12 VOLTS AND A GOOD CHASSIS GROUND CONNECTION, MANY TIMES THE WIRING HARNESS THAT GOES IN TO THE TAILGATE DEVELOPES A OPEN/BROKEN WIRE FROM THE REPEATED OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE TAILGATE, THE WIRE BREAKS INSIDE THE PLASTIC INSULATOR AROUND THE WIRE, SO IT IS NOT APPARENT ON VISUAL INSPECTION, REQUIRES THE USE OF AN OHM METER AND A VOLT METER.

The key switch on my 1990 Suburban tailgate window won't work

Remove the back panel on the rear tailgate, should be some screws then pop off. From there you will be able to see the switch and see if you can operate it manually by using a screw driver and hitting the switch if not then replace it. Located next to the key lock

Rear window on 1986 ford bronco

I had the same problem with mine and I drilled out the rivets holding the motor in. Have someone hold the window up when you do this so it don't fall. after you get it drilled and you can let it down you should be able to remove the window from the track through the panel. It has been a while since i had done it but the window motor was very reasonable.... make sure you are getting power to the motor before going through all of this because you might be able to put power to it and make it roll down.
