Question about 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier
While driving started loosing power.tuned into drive which is uphill and had gas applied all the way just to get up the hill. something smelled hot.a few days later tried to start but when turned the key there was only clicking noise. put battery cables on and in a few minutes it started but still no power and all gauges are acting crazy along with the radio shorting in and out. it started but it doesnt want to go.drove it out on road about a block and it lost power
Sounds like you have a connection problem and it is a major connection. Check all your grounds for looseness and cleanliness.Check all the positive connections for the same. When I say cleanliness I mean no corrosion, not only on the top of the connector, but where the connection meets the frame, or lug if it is positive.Do a "wiggle test with all major connections too.Grab the connector and wiggle it around to see if a change occurs. Look and listen for crackling sounds when you do this as it means that the connection is arcing. Pay close attention to alternator and battery connections.
