1988 olds delta 88 royal brougham 3.8 engine shakes and shimies.
It was running like a top only 68,000 mls. all of the sudden the engine shakes a bunch sounds like the beverly **** car. I go to pull over and the breaks have no power, have to push realy hard to stop. so Im thinking that I must have lost a vacume line. I pop the hood, start the car and i hear a ticking sound, the engine temp was 180. all lines were hooked up. my fear is that i lost the top of a piston. I hope that there is a more simple solution. i took the valve covers off. all looks well, rocker arms in place, valves and rods look good. I havent ran a compression test yet. I should have taken the spark plugs out and checked them out. see if one of them is smashed, but have'nt.

Re: 1988 olds delta 88 royal brougham 3.8 engine shakes...
Your brake booster may be leaking or the check valve on the vacuum hose going to the booster may be bad. Do you hear a hissing sound coming from the booster when you push the petal? Check these first before tearing down your engine. Good luck. Please rate me so I know how I'm doing. Thanks.
