1994 Mazda "holding light" poroblem

I have a 1994 Mazda 323 and the "holding light' keeps popping up. This keeps the car in 3rd gear. Sometimes the light goes off and it is ok, but then it pops up again and same problem. Is it the switch or tranny problem? Help?

Check the engines compression. This has been known to happen on real tierd engines that have poor compression, with it comes lack of power from the combustion cycles. If the rpm is raising quickly, and speed isn't, your clutch could be slipping.

You need a full service of the auto transmission. Check the oil condition for burnt smell.
The oil may be burnt out and fails to lubricate when temperature goes up.
But most likely the gear gaskets or gear teeth are worn out.

Automatic transmission has some buzz noise (like bee noise) when idle and when drives. Does not change gears (only 1st and 2nd no 3rd and 4th) Sometimes it changes through all gears. No problem in revers...

It sounds like clogged ports that allow fluid to go through. Reverse will most always work even when the entire tranny goes since it is it's own separate system. Try a flush, I don't normally advise that but it sounds like the way to go but I'm guessing a new tranny is in the very near future. Did you keep up on the fluid changes? Because those trannys in those mazdas usually go for a good 300k if kept up with maintenance.

Sorry for the delayed response.
If you still need the information:
The 1994 Mazda 323 does not have a V6 in it, It is a 1.6L Linear 4-Cylinder.
Click on the following link:

Again my apologies...
Let me know if this helped.

Sounds like oil on the clutch plate lining, burned or glazed facings. Could be worn or loose engine or transmission mounts. Sometimes it is worn splines on clutch plat hub or a warped pressure plate or flywheel.
