My heater and air conditioner does not work. My antifreeze reservoier keeps filling up with rust. what could be causing this. I had it flushed twice but keeps returning

I have to keep changing the fuse for the heater/air conditioner. It will just stop working. I'm wondering if the wattage is incorrect and this is why it keeps tripping. I'm replacing with a 20. Is this the right one? If it is, there must be a reason this keeps happening. Thanks. -Melissa, Pittsburgh, Pa.

The rust issue is related to the design of the cooling system, in a word ford screwed up, air gets trapped in the system and causes it to rust, the heater core is most likely plugged with rust, pull the hoses off at the firewall to the core and back flush the heater core, this should ge the rust out, then have the cooling system flushed with a power flusher, this will be a shop repair but there is no way around it, u may want to contact Ford/Mercury about a possible recall on the cooling system for this rust issue, as far as the A/C goes it is not related, does the compressor engage? let me know.

These two systems are only related by the ductwork and blower under your dashboard. If neither works and you can hear the fan blowing, then baffles in the ducts need to be checked for operation. You should also have the radiator flushed again (preferrably by a different shop) and install some of the best rust fighting antifreeze... Also, if the fan blows and the baffles are working in your ductwork and the ac still doesn't work, then most likely the freeon is low. It should be tested for pressure as well as having the relays and fan motor fuses checked. Hope this helps. Check back as you progress with any other questions if appropriate.
Good luck and Happy new year.

If no blower is running check for a bad fuse for the heater blower or a bad blower motor and or resistor or burned connector to the blower motor

2004 mercury sable gas go's into tank real slow

This is caused by an obstructed filler air pipe vent, this keeps the air from coming out of the tank as you fill, this causes the filler nozzle at the station to shut off as the gas backs up in the filler pipe, the air vent pipe is either kinked or blocked in some way. The vent tube runs down along side the gas fill tube and is all one part, replace it.

How do i flush the cooling system o a 1995 mercury villager

the easiest way is to connect a hose to a top hose (the same diameter)and remove the radiator cap, this backward flush will get all the rust/dust from out of the system.then undo the clip on the bottom hose of the radiator to drain it before filling with the CORRECT antifreeze.then run the engine to full temp and undo the topmost heater hose to bleed any trapped air.i recommend 50/50 antifreeze to water.there are other ways but this works for me...

Overheating when on highway or using air conditioner

The condenser for the ac is not getting enough air, look for the reason, look in front of the car at the radiator, see if there is something restricting air flow threw the radiator and condenser.

Not enough heat comeing out . not looseing antifreeze, not leaking on floor boards , not blowing on windshield , blows warm air on low but when on high blows cold air , have new thermostat and water pump

Check that the hoses running from the cooling system to the dashboard / firewall are not bent / creased in a position to impair the flow of hot water into the heater core in the dashboard. Disconnect these hoses at both ends, and inspect for mineral deposits, or rust, that might be blocking water passage too.

Car is running hot occasionally and the serpentine

Well there's only part that has to do with the cooling system and serp belt - the water pump!! Maybe it's starting to seize or has too much play. Either way, when you change the water pump, replace the thermostat and flush the system very thoroughly, those 98-99's are notorious for rust build up. Make sure to pull the heater hoses off and flush the heater core too. After all said is done, purge the coolant and make sure there is heat from the blower. If not you're going to have to replace the heater core because that gets clogged sometimes when flushing.

When I turn on the air conditioner it is blowing hot air as if the heater were on. Could it be a fuse? It was working fine yesterday.

heater core is going bad my dodge ram truck did the same thing for about three months then steam startedcoming out of the vents it was antifreeze i have not fixed it yet i just bypassed it for now cause its hot and i have to take the dash completly out to get to it, and yes my airconditioner was blowing out hot now immediatly after i bypassed it blows cold again.you have to find where it goes into the motor on both sides so follow the hoses from firewall then buy a 3ft hose to go from one side of motor to the other problem fixed! well that is you wont have a heater until you change the heater core
