Question about 1999 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

I have a 1999 ford f-150 w/approximately 80300 miles and the svc engine soon light came on this morning. I accidentally used summer coolant vs. multiseasonal coolant. Would this cause the light to come on? It's never displayed before.

The coolant would not cause the service engine light to come on, this light is telling u that a problem has been detected in the power-train controls or sensors, this can be the result of many things, a loose gas cap will cause it as well as a defective Oxygen sensor or an engine miss and many other issues, go to Autozone or Kragen Auto and have them run a trouble code test on the system, it is free, then post the code back here for me to look at it..

Sputtering engine while in passing gear

At 150000 miles the plugs start to fail under hard acceleration the higher compression blows out the spark before it ignites the fuel. Random cylinder misfire causes the check engine light to come on. change the plugs!

When the engine is cold the radiator indicator light comes on when I start it and goes off about 5 minutes later.

The coolant level is probably low again. Once the engine warms up the level in the tank would rise.

We were told by a mechanic that there ae some issues with our 1999 Ford Taurus wagon it has no oil pressure and has a cracked reserver now can this damge the engine ? its making a load desieling noice ,has...

Engine oil is the blood of the engine. With out oil pressure the engine will not survive as moving parts will no longer be lubricated. It sounds like the damage has already been done.

Are you talking about a cracked coolant reservoir? If so did you run the car out of coolant and overheat the engine?

From your description it sounds like the motor is done. I wouldn't hesitate to at least explore the option and cost of replacing the motor with a low mileage used engine.

My 1991 buick lesabre this morning showed the coolant temperature light on the dashboard when i opened my hood steam was visibly coming off the engine block...i waited 30 minutes then opened the radiator...

It's either the radiator is blocked and needs to be flushed or changed,or the thermostat (the temperature regulator) is blocked and needs to be changed.

1999 Ford Taurus Coolant Light

Jackie, Hi, yes this would be the problem if the temperature sensor is not working it will not tell the fan too start, so best advice would be too change this sensor, or have someone do it for you and that should cure your problem, Colin.

Should I use 10w30 or 10w40 oil

If you live in cold climate I would recommend 10w30 for winter use, it's a bit thinner and will start better. However if the truck is used hard, such as for towing loads I would use the 10w40. If you live in a warm climate I would use 10w40 all the time.

Service Engine Soon Light

take it to Autozone or Kragen auto for a free check of the trouble code that turned on the check engine/service engine soon light, then post the result here, there are over 100 diff faults that can turn the light on, most common are O2 sensors and loose gas caps.
