Question about 2004 Ford F150

1 Answer

Check Engine light comes on 2004 F150 2 wheel drive.

Ford dealer told me to change the fuel filter and use Chevron fuel. They are not able to correct this problem. All codes are good. I feel they do not have any idea why this light comes on. They feel it has something to do with the fuel and filter. I have had this to the dealer (4) times. My truck has 26,500 miles F150 V8 2 wheel drive.

Any suggestions on this problem?

Thanks Ralph Pettersen

check engine light stays on. I had it scanned, everyone keeps telling me the gas cap is loose. Should I replace the cap, or is there something else I should look at?

Let me get this straight... you gave them money to give you a bs answer like that??? Contact customer service. In essence you paid the dealer to NOT fix your truck????
If it's a fuel problem, it's likely that the fuel pump has an intermittent problem, but without testing, I would not swear to it, even though my advise is free!!!
    Good luck!

Buy, borrow or rent a code reader. PLUG IT IN UNDER YOUR DASH. Follow the instrutions'and it will tell exactly why the light is comming on. Like your dealer should have.

Black fuel coming out of fuel filter

it is dirt trapped by the filter and yes it is normal, work for a Ford dealer see this all the time, would suggest you change gas stations or bring it to there attention that thier fuel is dirty. Make sure you change the filter at least every 30,000 miles, use a Motorcraft factory filter, they are by far the longest lasting and best at filtering.

2004 Ford Freestar SEL sputtering, check engine light flickering.

Engine lamp will come on if idle is too low / fuel mixture is too lean or too rich.
A faulty spark plug will cause this also.

When was the last tune-up?

Inspect few plugs for carbon ash (lean running) or wet (rich running).

Clean Mass Air Flow sensor with CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor cleaner

Change air filter

Change PCV valve (under $10 item)

Ran a tank of Chevron gas with LUCAS fuel system cleaner additive.

Inspect for vacuum leak.
Start from the brake booster (round metal drum) and work you way outward.
