The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.
This link may help you find ways to bypass this or fix it yourself.

Therefore this is a HARD code that in your computer. I suggest that you take this vehicle to an Auto-Zone and have them put it on a code scanner. ITS DONE FOR FREE. They will be able to tell you what the codes mean and they can also rest this light. Good Luck

SOURCE: engine shuts off while driving

I would suspect a faulty EGR valve, but is the check engine light on? If it is, take the vehicle to an autoparts store and have them use a scan tool to retrieve the fault code(s) stored in the computer. Most parts stores offer this service free of charge. That will narrow the search for the problem. Sure hope this helped.

SOURCE: 1995 chevy cavalier passlock reset

Here is how to do the relearn. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes, the vehicle is nowready to relearn the PasslockTM Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
Important: The vehicle learns the PasslockTM Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the PasslockTM Sensor Data Code and/or password.
Thank you for using Fixya and just take you time and follow the instructions above. Good luck

While driving car the engine fan motor started running sounding real loud and then the dash lites began flashing on and off the battery lite came on the lite with wrench lite came on

Bit vague but I would start with the coolant. Is there any coolant in the system ? Might have caused an over-heat.
Which warning lights flashed apart from the battery ?
Check your water and oil (by "water" I mean coolant).
An over heating engine will cause all sorts of christmas tree lights to go beserk.

The message center is showing an indicator that resembles a wrench with lines going across it. what does this mean

check engine light...make sure the gas cap is tight and makes a clicking noise first off. disconnect the NEGITIVE (black) battery connection and wait 10 min. reconnect battery and drive as normal as possible for 10-20 miles doing 45-65 MPH, with stop and go traffic too... if the light is on or comes back on you have a malfunction and need to find out what code is stored in the ecm.

Wrench light is on and odometer shows negative mileage

The negative number means the car should have had it's oil changed that many miles ago. Oil life starts at 100% for new oil & counts down every 10%. At 15% the display will always show, which means it's near time to change the oil.

usersteve83, your oil may have been changed but the timer not reset. Reset the timer as shown...
1. Turn ignition to the "ON" position. (do not start engine)
2. Press SEL/RESET repeatedly until the oil life indicator is displayed.
3. Press & hold the SEL/RESET for about 10 seconds until it blinks then let go of the button.
4. Press the SEL/RESET again for about 5 seconds or until the oil life indicator resets to 100%.

Wrench = Maintenance Minder: Symbol letter & number...
Symbol A - Relace engine oil.
Symbol B - Replace engine oil & filter, Inspect front & rear brakes, Check parking brake adjustment, Visually inpest the tie rods, suspension components, driveshaft boots, brake hoses & line (including ABS), all fluid levels & their conditions, exhaust system, fuel lines & connections.
Symbol 1 - Rotate tires.
Symbol 2 - Replace air cleaner element (dusty conditions every 15K miles) & replace dust & pollen filter (behind glovebox) every 15K miles if mainly dusty or city driving.
