My 2006 Corolla S just started to behave like it has a fuel filer/pump problem. It only has 40,000 miles. Surely the pump would not fail this quickly, what could it be?

In a 2006 Toyota Corolla S. What is the Filter(?) box with the tubes coming out connecting to the main smog system near the left rear tire?

The "Filter Box" that you are referring to on this vehicle in that location would be the emissions system EVAP canister "aka...the charcoal canister" it takes vapors from the fuel tank and stores them in the activated "charcoal" to be used at at later time during engine combustion.

Hope this helps..
