Question about 2000 Volvo S40

1 Answer

Oil leakage i own a volvo s40 t4, and i recently started having a problem with my oil leaking and cannot trace where it's coming from and i regularly have to fill up my oil. can you please assist as i also noticed that when i try to gain a bit of power, the car tends to lose power after a short burst of throttling it and there's smoke that is visible from my side mirror when looking at the back. your assistance will be highly appreciated as i need to know whether i should be highly concerned with such a problem or if it is something that can be repaired without having to part with a considerable amount of money.

When my 2000 S40 was 4 years old, I had an oil leak in the turbo system, and so I can vouch that it's a problem with this car...

Without seeing your vehicle I can't say for sure where the oil is leaking from. turbo return line seals are prone to leakage. the seals themselves should be about $20

My 2006 Volvo S40 does not have an oil leak but it is burning through all the engine oil in between oil changes. I get my oil changed about every 4,000 miles.

have you tried to run finger around inside of tail pipe to see if its burning oil!! but do this when it is cold. you may also have bad oil rings on pistons. if it is burning oil it will smoke very little if any. because the convertor runs so hot it will burn up all the oil residue. so you may noy be able to see any smoke. have a good day!! check carefully all gaskets for oil leaks, and also make sure oil filter is hand tight, sometimes a loose oil filter will start leaking oil.

Volvo s40 white smoke and jerking, can it be plug coil problem?

It could be a coil. Or it could be a fuel injector. Also. Record your gas mileage by filling the car up and recording the number of gallons that the gas tank took. Reset the trip odometer and drive as normal. At the next fill record how much fuel again went into the gas tank. divide the gallons of gas at the second fill with the miles driven and that will be your mpg average. If your getting anything lower than 19 it's probably a fuel problem and should be taken to a different mechanic for a second opinion.

I have a 2004 volvo s40 1.9t and it has a ticking sound when cold but stops after gets warm, what could be the cause?

Have you recently changed the oil? have you go the correct grade of oil?

Sounds like the hydraulic lifters are being starved of oil during initial startup! when the oil reaches correct viscosy then the lifters settle down!

2001 Volvo s40 oil leaking in turbo, smokes white smoke and turbo not kicking in. I have a new head, timing belt waterpump, oxygen sens. valve job, cam pulley all changed. It is still smoking and no turbo....

Water in combustion chamber makes white smoke--suspect that the head gasket is leaking water into the chamber. If oil leaking around turbo, it may have a bad bearing and bad oil seal. Check waste gate valve and control.

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR VALVE SEALS ARE WORN, THIS COULD CAUSE ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS YOU DESCRIBED. A GOOD TECH CAN REPAIR THIS WITHOUT REMOVING HEAD FROM ENGINE.
