Question about 2000 Volvo S40

1 Answer

I own a volvo s40 t4, and i recently started having a problem with my oil leaking and cannot trace where it's coming from and i regularly have to fill up my oil. can you please assist as i also noticed that when i try to gain a bit of power, the car tends to lose power after a short burst of throttling it and there's smoke that is visible from my side mirror when looking at the back. your assistance will be highly appreciated as i need to know whether i should be highly concerned with such a problem or if it is something that can be repaired without having to part with a considerable amount of money.

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR VALVE SEALS ARE WORN, THIS COULD CAUSE ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS YOU DESCRIBED. A GOOD TECH CAN REPAIR THIS WITHOUT REMOVING HEAD FROM ENGINE.

There should be a cold start solenoid to put gas int o the manifold to cold start, it might be inoperable. This is the choke for a fuel injected engine.

Volvo s40 white smoke and jerking, can it be plug coil problem?

It could be a coil. Or it could be a fuel injector. Also. Record your gas mileage by filling the car up and recording the number of gallons that the gas tank took. Reset the trip odometer and drive as normal. At the next fill record how much fuel again went into the gas tank. divide the gallons of gas at the second fill with the miles driven and that will be your mpg average. If your getting anything lower than 19 it's probably a fuel problem and should be taken to a different mechanic for a second opinion.

Oil leakage

Without seeing your vehicle I can't say for sure where the oil is leaking from. turbo return line seals are prone to leakage. the seals themselves should be about $20
