How do you repair a back windshield wiper on a 2004 GMC Envoy? It does not function when turned on.

listen to tell if the motor is turning. some times the fastener comes loose on the arm and can be tightened, but you must first get the motor in the rest position. if the motor is not working, check the appropriate fuse. if ok, you'll need to remove the panel on the inside of the hatch. this should give you access to the motor. unplug, and test for power and ground with key on and engine off. operate the switch while checking with a 12 volt test light. connect test light to ground to check for power, and to power to check for ground. if ok try tapping on motor. sometimes this will make it work, but only on a temporary basis. motor replacement will be obvios when you see how it' smounted under the panel.

Problem The rear hatch door will not unlock.

First, on the rear hatch, there is an actuator. On FX, when you close the trunk, it kind of **** the hatch closed all the way. When you press lock on the remote, this same actuator locks it as well.
Now,
1) when you unlock the car from the inside, go back there and press the button to open the hatch door manually, do you here any noises?
2) Close all doors, go back close to the hatch button and using the remote , lock the car and then unlock the car. you should hear a sound from the actuator locking and unlocking the lock on the rear hatch!

If you don't hear this, your actuator is inop.
Next step would be to check the fuses inside the car, on the left bottom driver side, and outside on the battery compartment.
It might be just a fuse.
If all fuses check ok, your actuator is most likely gone! Not ea expensive fix, just time consuming!

NOW, if you can hear the noises, then something is either broken inside the actuator or one of the cables is loose!
Hope that helps.
Also, what year and miles on your fx?

Rear windshield wiper connection

You need to open the rear glass from the rear hatch. Look inside where the glass latches to the rear hatch. There is a Phillips head screw that connects the rear inner plastic panel to the rear hatch, remove this screw. Now, in the strap that you use to pull the rear hatch down, there is a torques head screw, that holds this strap to the rear hatch, you need to remove this screw.
Start at one of the outer corners of the inner plastic panel and pull the panel away from the hatch. You will see the upper wiper motor in the right hand corner of the hatch. ther is one connector that is easy to see, you have to pull up on a plastic clip to remove this connector. Look for the rubber hose for the windshield washer fluid, it may be cracked or fallen off the plastic nozzle to the outside of the rear door.

Please the hose back on or replace the hose if it's cracked or damaged by the wiper motor. To install just follow the procedure in revers.
Good luck and hope i made some sense. Keep me posted, be glad to help out.

REAR LIST DOOR PISTONS (2) NEED REPLACING

what country are you in... i only ask that to point you to the right store... in the states... autozone should have them... in canada... canadian tire.

you need to safely support the door open while you do this... each end of the strut (hatch piston often called a strut) has a bolt... most i've replaced had a hex head so you'll need a special socket.... undue each each ... then attach the new one in reverse order.

A SPECIAL NOTE OF CAUSION ... those struts are gas filled and can harm you if they should suddenly expand. keep in mind the old ones may have a small charge left in them... the new ones should have a strap holding them together ... do NOT remove that untill it is secured on both ends.

It is a pretty easy job once you have that socket (if required)

Please take a moment to rate this solution.. thanks

Back hatch door closed on strap of backpack-now can't open door

Try pressing down on the trunk /hatch and at the same time turn the key to try and open it. It might take a lot of downware pressure to finally get it to come open.
