Get a spanner or hammer and tap the starter motor while starting it get someone else to start it while tapping the starter motor if no start you need a new start motor if it dos start you still may need a new starter motor if if keeps doing it over

Does it not idle even after the engine warms up ?
That sounds like a vac leak, or not enough gas coming thru the idle circuit of the carb.

I'd use a gage and check correct fuel pressure? 2.9L engine, my info says 35--45 psi. If fuel pump has a problem, make sure gas tank is clean?
The engine cranks ok, but, won't start? Did you check spark at the plugs engine cranking? I'm just trying to decide if you have more than one issue?
