Re: 1988 Mustang 5.0 wiring
For the most part when you put the engine back the wires will lay back where they need to go and that will help you most plugs are not interchangeable but some sensors are if you can take a peek at one to get a idea of how to start the wires then it will be easier. As best I can remember the larger bundle runs down the passenger side of the engine intake

have someone put it in gear with foot on brake and increase rpm. watch the motor if it rises more than say 1/2" then repeat with car in reverse. if it raise more the mounts are worn or broke and need replacement. if not sure have it checked at a shop.
from:milton wright.your 1988 5.0 mustang with automatic trans.the dip stick should be under the hood,on the passenger side next to the fire wall.look down! check with the engine running, transmission in park!
if it was me i would stop by a Ford dealership in the parts department to see if they can print you off some pictures and diagrams showing you where the wires go if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your car wish you the best of luck Michigan Man
then cable is not that hard to fix but first you need to see if it is melted or any thing like that if it is u will need to get the outer shell also. to change it all you will need to pull the dash panel out so you can get your hand in the to pull the shell and cable off the spedo then on the trans u will see where it goes in it at you should be able to pull it out also this is you must change it all . if all you need to fix is the internal cable then just puull the cable frome the tranny then pull the guts out u cane get a rebuild kit from you local auto parts store when you get that just messer and cut to your size you need
DCL stands for Data Communcations Link. You need someone hook up a STAR tester (Self Test Automatci Readout) to the test connector under the hood on the right rear of engine compartment. See if it has codes stored. The connector actally is 2 connectors, one with 5? pins and one with 1 pin. It is plugged into a plastic shell on the engine computer. My 1988 Ford Wiring Diagram Book says to refer to section 3-7 and 33-61 of the shop manual.
WIsh I had the shop manual for 88 Cont'l but I just have the 88 Cont'l Wiring Diagram which I am going to sell on Ebay for $7 plus postage.
