Question about 2008 Toyota Prius
What caused this? After investigating and repairing the problem, how to turn off the light.
Ahh better its yellow and not red brake light it just means the brakes are nearing the time to replace them just having the brakes done will reset the light no scans needed just pushing the calipers back resets it

That is the light that tells potential thieves the car has an immobilizer. What you describe is normal operation.
Look in the manual for "immobilizer".

SOURCE: right brake light out 2004 Prius
Th other post is incorrect, the 2004 has LED brake lights that are part of the tail light assembly. you have to replace the whole assy. There are two screws that hold the assy in, they are both covered by white cable clips. The clips just pull off and then you can use a 10mm wrench to remove the nuts on the screws. My brake light stopped working and during the removal, the LEDs started working again, hopefully you will find the same situation as the LEDs are supposed to last for years.

one of your lights must be out.. check the sidemarkers on the bumper, or the tail lights. or maybe the small parking lights in the headlight.

I had the same problem. I unplugged the relays from the fuse/relay box under the bonnet. (Top left side) and replaced them. The problem disappeared. (2001 Prius 109,000 miles)

Please refer to the owners manmual on this as well as reading what is below.
Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)
Legend of Abbreviations. ABS Antilock brake system.TCS Traction control system, TCM Transmission control module, SRS Supplemental restraint system, BCM Body control module
