Loud squeeking when I turn my car on

When i turn my 2002 Kia Sedona on, there is a loud squeeking noise coming from the serpetine fan belt area. It sounds like it may be the belt or maybe the water pump. Any ideas of what it may be?
Thanks,
James

We had this problem on our '03 Sedona and it was the belt needed replacing as it had glazed and wasn't gripping the pulleys as it should. They would spin on it causing the squeal. You could check to see if it can be tightened, but if I remember correctly, it has an automatic belt tensioner so it's kept as tight as it should be. There's a spray-on belt dressing for squealing engine belts that helps them grip, available at any auto parts store. That may fix it for you without the need to replace the belt. For me it reduced the squealing for a while, but it just came back. We had the dealer replace the belt and all was well.

Hope this helps

It is indeed your Belt. You can get some Fan Belt Dressing from any Wal-Mart and that will take Care of it "TEMPORARILY". If you want to "FIX" it you are going to have to do some Mechanic Work. There is a Tensioner on Serpentine Belts that has to be Tightened every now and then. It is going to be the Roller that the Belt goes around that has a Big Roller on TOP that the Belt does NOT Go on and one hooks to it Below that the Belt Does go Around. There is a Bolt head in the Middle of one of these Rollers, Get a Socket and Wratchet and see how loose the Tensioner is. If it is Really loose you are gonna need a New one or Possibly even a New Belt. These Items don't cost all that much and if you are going to be Keeping that Kia, Is a small price to pay to keep it goin!

Check to see if your fan belt is making that noise. When they get old, sometimes the rubber gets hard, and they make an awful racket.

I have noticed that at times my steering on my kia sedona lx 2004 gets stiff like the power steering is gone .. as well my coolant levels are fine but i have no heat nor is the a/c blowing cold air .. what...

Some modern cars have an electrically driven pump to supply high pressure oil to operate the power steering. However, most cars have an oil pump for the steering which is turned by a belt from the crankshaft pulley. If the belt is loose or slipping, heavy steering will be the result, especially noticable at low speeds. Check belt for tightness, and check oil level is not low, possibly due to a leak?

This is a known problem and has been increasingly noted by sedona owners. Steering shaft becomes corroded making vehicle steer hard. They say due to salt but if you live anywhere it snows you cant avoid it.

Loud squeeking coming from the belt area

you'll have to the belt if the belt is old.
also, a temporary solution i learned that gets rid of some of the noise is to slowly pour a pitcher of water on the belt while the car is on.

check the alternator belt tightness, alot of the problems are caused by this :)

listen for the noise with the bonnet up, think you will find its the alternator belt squeeking or maybe a tensioner :)
