Rattling & Squeaking coming from front of motor...

I have a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500, 5.3L. I have had the Idler Pulley and belts replaced and the Tensioner Pulley is good. There is a squeaking noise as if there is a loose belt and the when I depress the brake pedal I hear a chattering/rattling noise coming from the engine. No one can seem to pinpoint the problem. Any ideas as to what it could be?

There is a vacuum line PCV that goes to the drivers valve cover the hose could be broken down and causing the noise could be other things but that is the first thing that comes to mind

V6 engine knocking and squeaking noise

check for play in the distributor sometimes the slop will make the pick up window under the cap will hit the distributor cap , the squeaking noise may be your belt or tensioner pulley bearing the knock can also come from a bad tensioner as well .

Idler pulley noise

you need to replace the idler pulley as when it stops turning it is in a seized position and when its rattling the bearings are making the noise. this indicates it is about to let go(fall apart) you will also need to replace the belt as it will also be worn. you will need to remove the belt using a special tool and then using a rachet with the proper size socket to remove the bolt holding the pulley on to the motor to replace the pulley. don`t put yourself down just because your a country girl. I find that farm girls a very innovative when they need to be. if your sure about doing it yourself then take it to a shop and have it done.

I have a 96 Ford Taurus and when I turn the engine on, and while accelerating there's a squeaking sound.

Well,a drive belt needs to be replaced every 50,000 mi. or so,and a weak tensioner can allow slack which causes sqeak even if the belt is good.
The idler pulley on those is easy to replace also. If the tensioner isn't holding the drive belt very tighly, replace it and the belt.
Auto Zone will let you put down a deposit and borrow a tool to work the tensioner so the belt can be easily removed. don-ohio

I have a 91 gmc sierra truck, its two wheel drive v6 4.2 engine i think. when you accellerate from a stop you hear a whine but after it gets going its not there anymore, what is causing that?

Depending on the wine itself ; you may be able to hear weather it is coming form a front belt or a slipping in the transmission. I would check all fluids and go from their. Sometimes the idler pulley will make the same sound if the belt is worn beyond limit .But usually it will tick if the bearing isn't worn..............Hope this helps.

I need to replace a serpentine belt on a 2001 GMC sierra 4.8L. I see the belt tensioner for the AC belt, but the tensioner for the main belt is less obvious. There is an idler pulley but it does not look...

it is decieving. if the tensioner has an extension of about two inches from the base, it takes a 15 mm to lift it, be easy, make sure the wrench is not going to touch anything as you release it after taking the belt off

Serpentine belt popping off

ONE OF THE PULLEYS ARE WORN OUT AND NOT ALIGNED PROPERLY WITH THE OTHERS. LOOK AT THE TENSIONER AND IDLER PULLEYS. ONE OF THESE COULD BE THE CAUSE. REMOVE THE SERPENTINE BELT AND ROTATE THE PULLEYS BY HAND TO SEE WHICH ONE IS EITHER SQUEAKING OR LOOSE ON ITS BEARING. REPLACE THE BAD ONE AND YOU SHOULD BE ALL SET. HOPE THIS HELPS. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK

Rattling & squeaking coming from front end of motor..

I'm takin a stabe at this one, I think it may be coming from your waterpump. Use a long piece of metal or a pry bar and place it on any part of the pump that you can safely put it while the truck is running. Put your ear to the bar and you should be able to tell if it's coming from there. Good luck!
