Question about 1996 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

96 Jetta starts to lurch like it is out of gas then dies.

The lurching and sputtering is like it is out of gas however the tank is full. I am in a cold climate so I added fuel deicer/ water remover but am still having the same problems. After it dies it will restart about 10 minutes later.

Try a new fuel filter.

If I remember correctly, Jack the car up from the passenger side and the fuel filter should be on the bottom just under the rear seat. Couple of clamps, take out the old one and replace it with a new one. Ten minute job. They get moisture on the filter media then freeze in cold weather and act like its plugged, vehicle seems like its starving for fuel. Also use the fuel deicer with isopropel alcohol, it works better.

Jetta v6 lurching and almost stalling

When something in the car's faulty and a sensor picks it up and tells the computer, the computer will cause the car to do exactly that. Could be anything, from a damaged air intake sensor to the breaks.

Have your car connected to a computer and let the computer do the talking for you.
