I have a 1988 jeep wrangler that seems to have developped a problem of cutting out after running for 15 or 20 minutes.this problem happens at random times, any rpm,any mph,any weather,etc..I,ve changed plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and coil.It will always start right back up or start after a minute or two, then cut out again after more brief running.Any suggestions?

Hey guys I had the same problem on my '87 YJ. My computer went bad and it was causing the same dilemma. Try replacing the computer or do a nutter bypass and it should run like you want it to and probably give it a little more hp.

Im not sure if it is your problem but i would try replacing your throttle position sensor on the throttle body. it has a simple two wire conector and two torx bolts. mine was cutting out and stalling and sputtering and that was my fix

if it acts like you turned the key off where the motor just shuts off without missing and sputturing i would for sure look at changing crankshaft sensor or may be a camshaft sensor if it has one. once sensor looses track of timing computer will shut down motor.

Check spark and fuel pressure. One is failing and must determine which to proceed further.

I have a 88 jeep wrangler. Ok what happed was when i started driving it the other day i heard something break and the motor shut off. After looking under the jeep i saw the rod coming off the throttle...

That rod may have pulled of wire going to starter, or ground strap in that area. No headlights, nothing? Disconnect (+) positive connection at battery for now, and have a look along the path the rod may have taken for a cut or broken wire or strap.

1988 jeep wrangler 6cylinder,5 speed trans, no a/c

Did you check the fuel filter? Did you check pump pressure? A faulty pump or a partially plugged filter can do this. Obviously filter is the first thing... it's easy to do and is often neglected, likely overdue for service anyhow! There are other things that can also cause your problem but I'd look at the common stuff first!
Good luck
