Not going in or out seems like its in between sounds something like a match book on a spoke
My '95 Blazer with a manual 4X4 shift started doing the same thing the other day. When I put it into 2 high the front axle lights stay lit up and the passenger front makes that same whailing noise. It eventually drives out of it but still the 4 wheel drive does not work. I was told it was probably the transfer case motor. It has 170,000 miles so its definately a possibility. Does anyone know if they are hard to replace for a novice mechanic?

I imagine that there would be and the first place would be looking is at a wreckers that handles blazer 4x4 vehicles.. You will have to go there any way to get a fly wheel and all the manual equipment need to do the conversion
5 year difference,i would not take that chance, the pcm not programmed to that transmission older transmission going have differet set up,the electronics will not match up.you will have check engine light problems and shifting problems look for same year transmission your vechicle has.
Hi ..i had the same same problem in my k3500,check 4x4 fuse first .if thats blown replace it if blows when you put in 4x4 go under the car and unplug the actuator at the front diff.go back in the cab and put another fuse in, shift into 4x4 if the fuse does not blow this time you will need a new actuator.
thats what happened with mine and now 4x4 is sweet.i thought mine worked to at the start until i got bogged and noticed my front wheels wernt turning.
sounds like the transfer case has gone bad and needs to be rebuilt. if it is a newer style blazer (late 90's or newer) with the push button transfer case it could be the motor that shifts the transfer case is bad or not install right.
