Can't remove the leather cover off the gearshift

I am having difficulty removing the leather cover off the gearshift of my '96 SC400. There is a control/button for overdrive on the shift that I think is the culprit, but it is not coming off easily. Please help!

I have a Dodge Caliber 1.8 SXT and want to change the transmission fluid. It is a manual transmission and if i look it up in the owners manual, it tells me to use ATF 4... is this right? Further i did take...

Yes, the ATF4 is the correct transmission fluid to use in your Dodge Caliber. As for finding the fill plug it should be a bolt screwed into the side of the tail housing midway between where the gearshift goes in and the end of the transmission. Look on both sides. If it is not there, you may be required to pull the gearshift out of the transmission, this is not hard to do. Simple remove the gearshift boot cover and there should be 4 bolts holding what is known as the gearshift inspection plate. Remove these bolts with the gearshift in neutral, pull directly up on the gearshift and it should come out of the transmission, but by all means search for a fill plug first.

Removing an automatic gear shift out of a sc400

position the shifter into the drive position, pull down on the plastic trim directly underneath the leather portion of the shifter. theres two phillips head screws behind that. remove the shifter knob and the plastic piece. the trim will pop out if you pull directly upwards, disconnect the heated seats(if you have them) and the trac button. hope that helps.

How do you remove the leather gearshift cover on a 6 speed 2002 corvette

the six speed in these cars is a t56 tremec trans. the gearshift knob on these are just threaded onto the shifter lever. it is regular right handed threads so just grip it tightly and turn it counter clockwise to remove the shift knob. if you are only trying to remove the leather about the only way would be to cut it off but underneath it does not look good and you have to buy a whole knob not just the leather cover to replace it.

I have a Mariner outboard engine which requires the water pump to be removed for repair. The gear shift linkage once disconnected from the oprating lever will not pass through the casing in the engine...

In order to disconnect the gearshift linkage from the gearshift operating handle, a safety clip was rotated about 90 degrees clockwise. Once in this position, if you pull the safety clip towards you, it comes completely out, which then permits the gearshift rod to seperate from the operating lever.
