Question about 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII
I dissconnected the battery and it went off for about 3 weeks . now it's back on,and dissconecting the battery this time doesn't help. any ideas?
I had the same problem two years ago and found a solution in another forum. Spray the door latches on both doors heavily with WD-40 and work the moving parts around. This solved the pesky problem, and it has not come back for two years.

There is a button on the inside door jam (between the door and body on the body side) clean it with some penetrating oil like wd-40 or tri flow. that will fix it up and while in there use the same oil to lube up the hinges they will start to squeal soon if not already doing so.
