Question about 1992 Eagle Talon

1992 Eagle Talon TSI Fuel Pump not coming on like normal

Car died instantly the other day while driving.

Fuel pump does still work if i run hot wire to it via test connector under hood.

All fuses are good.

Had ECU replaced about a year ago.

Please advise...thanks.

Yes i did bypass the pump and it did run fine. Strange b/c it only ran for about 10 seconds then quit. I tried it again later the same way and it didnt run again? Was that b/c the pressure was up?

But, the pump does seem to work?

Does that make sense...Thanks for your help...let me know, Mark

Yes, i ran a hot wire to the fuel pump socket and it did run and i felt pressure in line and then it stopped running.

    Car is fuel injected

Where is the fuel pump relay?

    This is screwy?

Thanks for your help...please any more help?

I hotwired the fuel pump connect by the wiper motor per the manual i bought. So, yes, i am guessing that bypasses the relay? does it?

if u look at the wiring diagram the relay will look like a little coil spring, with dots on straight lines, that is the symbol for all relays.

yes worked on them back in the 90's at dual car line dealer, didn't sell well so not much repair work, never saw an issue with the fuel pump, but all have a relay somewhere. I do however have 30 years of automotive electrical work, that is what I liked and they poured it on, all cars have the same basic systems, components may vary but theory is the same. It seems no other expert wants to touch this because your car is a low production and no one knows them very well including me.

do u have a wiring diagram? if not get one.

That is not what I asked, I asked did u jump the fuel pump relay socket to bypass the fuel pump relay??

Let me get this straight, you jumped the fuel pump relay socket and it ran 10 seconds and stopped? this car is fuel injected correct? and i assume it is, the pump always runs, the fuel that is not used is sent back to the fuel tank in the return line.

The book just told me the fuel pump relay is near the ecm under the center console and to test it put the positive to terminal 10 and negative to terminal 8 and with power to the relay connect the negative probe of a voltmeter to the battery negative terminal (where the - is to the relay) and connect the positive to terminal 4 then 5 it should read out about 12 volts at each terminal, connect the jumper leads terminal 9 to battery (+) and terminal 6 to the battery (-) and with those relays connected to the relay check for continuity between terminals 3 and 2 there should be continuity remove the ground from terminal 6 the ohmmeter should read now read no continuity install jumper lead to terminal 3 to battery (+) and terminal 7 to battery (-) check for voltage at terminal 2 and battery (-) should be about 12 volts remove (-) from terminal 7 now should read nothing if anything doesn't read out what i said replace it and the numbers for he terminals start from the plug part you had to push on to remove the wires it goes 1-5 on the top and the bottom 1-6 and this would be with the clip on top if this did not help let me know i will read off the next part to check

93 talon tsi getting fuel and spark car cranks but wont start

I would try making sure spark plug wires are put on in the correct firing order. This is a common mistake in tune ups. Most intake manifolds have the firinging order cast in. Plug gaps correct? I cant come too far away.

My 1995 eagle talon dies while driving, but starts back up with no problem.the car has a new fuel filter and plugs and plug wires.

Fuel pump could be acting up i had a Volvo do same thing i had to make a set of long hoses to go from engine to inside the car so i could run car down the road and monitor fuel pressure that's how i tested it, before buying expensive part you should test fuel pump under work load.

Car starts then instantly dies

there is an idle control valve and an air flow meter that should be checked.check all the wiring harness and connectors to the crank and cam sensors.

No fuel pressure

Sounds like a bad fuel filter, or fuel pressure regulator. If there is no pressure to the rail, the fuel filter is either clogged, or the fuel line is broken or kinked somewhere between the fuel pump and fuel rail.

1991 eagle talon starting problem

its probably your fuel pressure solenoid. it is probably leaking vacuum to the FPR causing your fuel pressure to be to low. try disconnecting the vacuum hose coming off the fuel pressure regulator.
put your finger over the end of the hose and have someone try and start the car. (if your alone just plug up the hose)
if the car will start easily now, replace the solenoid and the problem should be fixed
