My mk 4 spit is turning over and firing with the ignition key open but shuts off as soon as I let the key go. Any ideas?

I'm thinking it's the switch itself since it does fire in the 'start' position. The contacts in 'run' position may have become worn, hence no current supply to ignition.. This is not unusual if the ignition key is combined with several others, placing extra weight on the mechanisim. This happens with air cooled Porsche 911's and older liquid cooled VW's..

Problem changing gears when hot. ok when cold!

It will be best to get someone to check the hydraulics of the clutch. That is a common issue.
Get a workshop to drain the gearbox oil and flush the system. A tell tale may come from the drained oil if the tranny is near end of life.

Engine will rev up when driving without going faster

Dear Sophiamariag,

niiiccceee. This unfortuately sounds like you have an issue with transmission/ gearbox and clutch; and I will explain.

As you well know as a driver, your car needs and engine; this is as you know provides your output, but before your car can even go anywhere, the gearbox needs to be engaged by a clutching method. Now it is possibly the clutch here that is defective. Firstly, if there is oil, grease or excessive wear on the clutch, it will not engage the transmission properly, and as a result, will slip. You will notice an increase in engine revolution speed, and your car will appear to be travelling much slower; eventually your clutch will wear out so much that you will loose all direct drive in all gears. The only way to resolve this is to remove the gearbox and clutch unit and inspect them. If anything is worn or damaged, then it will need to be replaced. My advice is take this car to a garage and get a quote; also get a quote from parts suppliers for this make and model of car. Now things might get a lot more expensive if you have an automatic gearbox, but even so, to me this points to a mechanical fault involving transmission, of which it is likely that the clutch is the liability, but even so, it is worth getting the gearbox and engine checked and serviced.

I hope that this is the fixya for you and best of luck with this motoring issue; im sure everything should be good

yours sincerely

Service engine soon light comes on and engine in vehicle begins to rattle and shake uncontrolably and service engine soon light blinks

The blinking light indicates a sevier miss fire. Get the codes scaned to determine which cylinders and we can go from there.
Auto Zone will scan codes free of charge.
Chances are you have an ignition coil or injector driver issue.
let me know.

Porsche 944 Turbo won't go into gear when motor is running.

Hi mate. I'm no Porsche expert but the most common diagnosis would be clutch failure. If you can shift (even some) gears with the engine off then this would be plausible. Before looking at the complete clutch, try the master and/or slave cylinder, it's more likely to be the master. Pop the bonnet and check the level of brake fluid in the reservoir, there is no "clutch fluid", it's just brake fluid. If it's below the minimum line, top it up then see if it engages gear. Get it checked out, but tell the mechanic your theory, he'll soon confirm it if it is.
