1 Answer

Engine problens prior to now the engine would sometimes turn over ,start, run 15 minutes and die. or it would start right up take off get 3 or 4 blocks and just die. wait 15 minutes and it wouls start run fine. other times it would just turn over not start all day go back 2 days later and start right up. and sometimes run 10 minutes then die start again and run ok foe long distance, turn off for a while go to start it and do all this all over again. I have replaced the fuel pump assymbly in tank. and the fuel filter on the frame. plugs seem ok checked distributor seems ok. last couple of days its been starting and running, but wen your driving or accrelerating it spits and spurts and chokes like. once on highway runs fine most of time but will spit and sputter at all speeds. could this be clogged or dirty fuel injectors? or someone told me it could be fuel pressure regulator PLEASE HELP IM VERY FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you had the fuel tank inspected/cleaned? This may have been done whent he fuel pump was being replaced and there was access to your tank interior.

If you have crud in your tank, especially if it's leaves, paper or flakes of old coating/paint, then it can float around and slosh in your tank and at the most inopportune time get sucked over the fuel intake for the pump and choke off or restrict supply. This can give the symptoms you describe, where there are spells of repeated weird symptoms, and then it changes symptoms or appears to dissappear for a while when the crud floats away from the pump. As soon as the fluid motion of the tank brings it back over to the fuel intake, the restriction starts again. Then when you stop the car, and the suction stops and lets it drift off and fall to the bottom of the tank, it seems to be fine again until fuel flow again sucks the offending item back against the intake. I've seen this on three occasions in the past with the same symptoms as you describe and it also foxxed repair shops to no end. On one occasiosn a guy's solution to a rusty tank was to use a tank coating kit. However, if you don't prep the tank and follow the instructions precisely (which he did not) the coating doesn't bond and can pull away from the tank walls and break up into small sheets that can cause the issues I describe above.

Hope this helps

Just turns off on it's own, Wait 60 sec. restart press pedel it dies.

This engine is electronically controlled so the first thing that must be done here is to have the systems control computer tested for fault codes and then do the proper diagnostics based on those codes.

Sometime the engine will turn over fine but, not

Listen for 2 to 3 second prime on fuel pump when the key is turned to the on position. Make sure every thing is as quiet as possible when doing this. also it may take several tries to hear it so make sure you wait at least 10-15 seconds before each try . the fuel-pump should also run while cranking. Do this and re-post and we'll take ti from there!--thanks

Did you change your fuel filter? What about the air filter? You nay also have a bad plug wire. It may need a tune up. I do my own.

Try this: Disconnect the ecm control (where the air filter is housed)
Let me know if that worked.
