Question about 1993 Mazda Protege

2 Answers

Blower motor & resistor on 1999 mazda protege. It worked only on high for the last few months. Which would be the resistor. It stopped working totally the other day, I messed around with it and got to work on high again, then it stopped again this morning. I unplugged the resistor and now it is working on high again. Does that sound like a resistor problem or am I looking at other possible issues? Tony

Just change the resistor b/c when resistor go bad they get stuck on high or low. selecting on low give you more resistor and less flow of air from the blower and on high side you get less resistor and more flow

good luck

check for power and ground at the blower motor. if this is good then hit motor. if it starts the motor needs replacing. then check the fuse then the fan speed switch for power and ground going to the switch and coming out of switch.

The fan motor on my 2001 Mazda Protege only works on high. I do not know if it is the switch or the motor. I have read also that there may be a resistor involved. Where do I start?

If you have access to a multimeter and know how to use it then you can unplug the resistor plug and check the resistor...it is usually located on the blower housing as it uses the air from the blower to keep it cool...the resistance reading will be very low...if any one shows an open condition(no reading) then you will need to replace the resistor...if you don't have a multimeter, you can try to change the resistor as they usually are not that expensive...the switch does not go bad that often

Where can i find the blower motor resistor on a 97 mazda protege?

I think any parts store can get it for you.

But if you asking for location of the component , then it's a different story.
All b/m resistors(any car) located around blower motor or in the air duct after blower motor, they need to be vented all the time , otherwise they overheat and blow. Wires from motor are going to resistor , so if you trace the wires you'll find resistor.

If the blower is not working at all it could be the blower or fuse or switch but if it blows on high only it could be your blower motor resistor.
