Question about 1996 Chevrolet Silverado 2500
I have a 1996 automatic chevy silverado 1500 4.3L 2WD.... I bought this truck for $1,800 I've already had to put a rear axle, alternator, battery, Distributor cap, spark plug wires, PCV valve, and a starter. I was used as a city truck in Worcester, MA so it's been run pretty hard.
It has multiple problems When I first got the truck it ran pretty rough. As time went on the spudering got worse. So bad that the door would shake and the truck would rock from side to side. After driving around for a while I would get better, but it was still there. I live in new hampshire, but I went to college for a semester in Maine. I drove it up to college and drove around there for about a month. Then after about a month I got back and left the lights on accidently. The next day I came out and it wouldn't start. So I called my friend and asked him to give me a jump. We had to be out there for like half hour to 45 minutes.
After that I replaced the alternator and that didn't work. Replaced the battery and then kept crankin and crankin for a hour. It was partially the battery, but the engine still wouldn't start. By the end of my time trying the indicator lights didn't go on. So I tried again to start it and they came on. They kept going on and off, and I could also here a clicking comeing from under the dash where my feet were. I keep trying until the battery dies. So I called my friend again the next morning to give me a jump, and again 30 - 45 minutes... nothin. By now I fryed my battery because it won't hold a charge anymore. At the end of the semester I had to have my mother tow my truck 3 1/2 hours down to New Hampshire with a U-Haul thing. So we brought it down and I struggled to get the rusty piece of **** starter out, and I put a new one in this mornin. I got in my truck and nothin. AAAHHHHH!!!!! and here I sit telling you my story. I think it might be my ignition or fuse box or SOMETHING electrical.
Thank you for your help,

Well tom it sounds like you have your hands full,(is this the 4.3 vortec?) so maybe some or all of these suggestions can help, start by replacing the pick up coil, ignition modual (dont forget to use the dyelectric grease that it comes with VERY IMPORTANT),cap and rotor ,plugs and wires. from there you can go on for ever but if that doesnt work ( it should solve most of the issues) try the o2 sensor. from there i would suggest changing the air and fuel filter. That should be a good start for now

Thank you very much, but I found the problem. After all the frustration it turned out only to be the negative battery cable. 45 bucks. CHUH CHINNNG!!!!! Thanks very much though. It was very strange because it wouldn't start, nor would the indicator lights turn on. And when they did it was only on rare occasion. So thanx again I'll think of that the next time somethin goes wrong.
and yes it was a 4.3 vortec v6 1996 chevy silverado 2 wd automatic.
