Question about 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

1 Answer

Vehicle won't start, power doors won't work

I don't know if this is relevant, but I had the trans replaced last week on this vehicle, and now my wife came out from a store and it wouldn't start. We had someone come out and try to jump it with no luck, so they towed it home for me to look at since we just spent $1300 for the trans. When trying to start it the dash lights come on and you hear the starter relay in the fuse box under the hood, and when you first try to start it you hear a very faint flutter of what sounds like a starter solenoid for a fow seconds. The side power doors also won't work now, and when you turn the innition on, all of the lighted gear positions have a lit box aound then that doesn't go away. I cleaned the terminals and tried another battery that I know is good. The tow truck driver said that it's the starter, but it's too cold for me to want to trouble shoot on a hunch.

When my starter on my 98 van died, it went without warning. I suspect that is what is happening here. If your lights are working and other than the doors, everything else is in order, I think that is your culprit. I don't have my manual here to look at how to test it without pulling it off. I can check that tonight. I'm on the west coast so it will be awhile.

Dealer says only 5 of 6 sensors on sliding door are making a connection. The sensor not working is drawing power, effectively killing my battery every 3 weeks or so.

Does your vehicle sit for 3 weeks at a time? There will always be a draw on the battery. It is called a parasitic draw. This draw comes from computers and modules within the vehicle to maintain memories. If the vehicle sits for 3 weeks or more, this small drain will deplete the battery. If the vehicle is driven daily and every 3 weeks the battery goes dead overnight, the draw will have to be high. If the door is the problem, I would suspect the battery to be dead every morning. Removing the door fuse will illiminate the door as the problem. The life expectancy of an automotive battery is 5 years. Anything older can start to cause electrical problems.

Interior lights, gauges, door locks etc not working.

What kind of manual do you have ? Haynes or chilton manual ? these are no good , they don't show everything ! If you want one that shows everything . Go to ALLDATAdiy com Leading Source of Factory Automotive Repair Information
Checking power an grounds to the affected circuits would be the place to start . Using a wiring diagram to locate points in the circuit to test using a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter .
Looking at a wiring diagram i see that the lights an the power door locks master switch share a common ground - G- 200 could be a loose connection . Look at alldata would show location of this ground point as well as any other ground on the vehicle . Plus gives description of how all the systems on the vehicle work .

99 Nissan pathfinder le. I was driving and lost all power (lights, dash lights, hazards, everything). I had the alternator tested at auto zone and it was putting out +14. I replaced the battery and it...

You are throwing away money by replacing g parts that are likely just fine. Check for an ecu relay. My wife's 06 has an IPDM/ecu relay issue that will cause the vehicle to just die. It gets corrosion inside the contacts and cuts power to the computer. I had already purchased a spare for a couple dollars. Wife was close to home and car died, started back and was acting up. Swapped the relay in about 2 minutes and no issues since (several months now). Sometimes a small part can cause big problems. You can't just throw money at everything hoping to fix it. You need to do some research and troubleshooting.

My 2003 dodge neon 2.0 won't start

The circuit you hear powering up for two - five seconds should be the fuel pump priming the fuel system . What type transmission ? manual or automatic ? Do you know what a wiring diagram is an how to read it ? Free wiring diagram's here Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model and engine size. Under system click on engine then under subsystem click on starting .Click the search button then the blue link . If you look at this diagram you will see the fuse at the top of the page that powers the ignition switch . You will see the ignition switch , the starter relay and the PCM - engine computer ! The PCM supply's a ground to energize the starter relay . But only if it see's that the transmission is in park or neutral ( automatic trans ) Or the clutch switch is closed ( manual trans ) .To see this you would need to go to transmission controls under transmission/transaxel . Plus the PCM will not energize the relay if there is a anti-theft system problem . You could do testing right at the relay base (where the relay plug's into ) With a test light ,voltmeter etc... Watch this video on relays

My 2004 deville shifts a little rough at different speeds. It seems to do it when the car is warm to hot.It does not leak.Would a transmission flush help the problem? It has 76000 miles.we bought it with...

You Change Trans & Power Steering Fluids every
30,000 miles on ALL Vehicles

I don't suggest flushing,some people do

If you want to chance having problems get
it flushed

You remove all the fluid it may just start to slip

You have to understand that fluid changes DO NOT FIX

The fluid removes heat & breaks down
That is why it is changed

I would assume you don't flush brake fluid every 2 years
Trans & Steering every 3 years,not over 30,000 miles
Spark Plugs at 60,000 miles

When you buy a used vehicle you lay it up for two weeks
& work on it,never drive it
All Preventative maintenance gets done,regardless
of what you were told about the vehicle

I have a 2002 Santa Fe AWD (2.7L) with 302K KM. Two weeks ago, I noticed on two occasions that the transmission did not downshift as smoothly as before from 3rd to 2nd (auto trans) as I approached a stop...

first try flushing and replacing the transmission fluid,if this dose not help take unit to a trans service centre have them check the valve body, you may have some shift solinoid malfunction

2001 Honda Odyssey Transmission Problem

The Odyssey has notorious bad transmissions from 2000-2003. You will not get anything on a trade, the trans can be fixed for about $2k. If everything else on the van still works and you like it, figure you bought it again for $2k. I changen my wife's Odyssey trans at 175K miles for $2k and she is happy so therefore I am happy too :-)
