no I do not have the piece that fell out. Is there a way to re-route the wiring to by pass the security? Or would it be better to put in a new ignition?

Thanks, it is pricey to have a key ordered. Just checking on options. Thanks again for your help!

not unless u are in possession of a factory wiring diagram and prepared to tear the electrical system apart to locate a POSSIBLE bypass re-wire, no u are stuck, have it towed to the dealer, how where u thinking they could even cut a key? u ill need a new lock cylinder as well as the re-program of the security module.

U will have to get a new key made, there is no other choice, do u have the little piece that fell out of the key? it has a certain resistance value that is needed to select the proper key blank to make a new key, if not you will need to take this to the dealer to re-program the security module.

Jmeyer847 cutting a key without the resistance value of the old key will give u a crank no start, julesh99 The key blanks for your car are about $20, in 99 they started using a different system, those are around $40

Best advice I can give would be to contact a couple of locksmith companies around the area. They maybe able to cut you a new key on the spot. Also you could try to give the Dealership a call and order a key through them (its kinda pricey). Thats where I would start.Good luck to you. Thanks for using fixya!

Sincerely,

JC

Changed the battery on 2001 AudiA4, 1.8t, won't start now

So you changed the battery in the key? and this is the problem i suspect that you have lost the chip out of the key when you took the key apart to change the battery ,dont worry its happens to the best of us the phone rings or you get distracted -if you have lost the chip then try the spare key if you do not have one call the dealer and have a spare key and a new chip in your key programmed up-

Okay heres what happen my chip in my key fell out so car wont start noter what doo I do

research vats bypass on google. I had to bypass, you simply measure the resistance through the chip, go to radioshack and buy the resistors that add to that amount or withing 2%. cut the orange wire that leads to the ignition and install the resistors bypassing the vats permanently.

I have a 2001 ford explorer. If i tape the chip key under the dash will the computer pick up the chip key if i try to start it with a regular key?

I don't know why you would want to do that, unless your key is broken and your trying to used your spare key, but no that will not work, you would need to hold the key with the chip next to the ignition key hole for the computer to pick up the chip's signal.

Spare/extra key will not start the car

Key must be made by the dealer and programmed to the vehicle. There is a chip in the key that the antitheft system must read to start the engine. Any key blank with matching cut can open the door, no chip necessary

I lost my spare key for my 07 sport fit.How can I get a new spare key made as cheaply as possible? What about one with a remote?

sorry but you are resolved to having the key from the factory, there is chip in the handle part of the key for secuirty purposes that will not allow the ignition to operate, for this reason the hondas are now more difficult to steal... as we all know honda had real problem with being the easiest car for thieves to take...

The engine starts and stops after 5 sec. !!!

Looks like you have a problem with an immobiliser, either the actual chip inside your ignition key is broken or the ECU has reprogrammed itself or for some reason it is not reading the chip. Have you tried your spare key? To reprogram the key you will need vagtacho2.2 or Vagcom and an interface.

Broken key car wont start

playerfoul3,
i had the same thing happen to me. you have a smart key and there is a chip inside the key that must be read by the security skin in your ignition your car will start three times and if the chip is not presented to the security skin transducer then it will lock your ignition out so the car will not start. Two options one if you have a spare key use that and try turning the ignition on and leave the car set for 3-4 hours this will generally clear the lock out. If that does not work then you will need to get a new key from the dealer and have them flash your car's PCM or get the new blank key and call an area lock smith and have them reprogram your key and reset your antitheft module on your car.
