Speed sensor for a 1996 Century

Good day!

My problem that I am having is with the speed sensor on a 1996 Century.

I have replaced an old speed sensor w/ a new one due to the vehicles odometer and transmission acting up. The odometer is not reading and the transmission shifting hard.

So I replaced the speed senor w/ a new sensor and the problem was not fixed.

What do you think is happening?

I assume u got a code for the speed sensor circuit, this code means there is a problem in the speed sensor circuit, it can be the sensor, the wiring, the connector pins or the PCM, but as u found out in your case it is not the sensor but some other issue in the VSS circuit, u will need to check the wiring from the sensor to the PCM (powertrain control module) and see if u have continuity. The dealer has special electronic test equip to run these tests, I suggest u refer this repair to the dealer.

May want to see if the parts store gave you a good sensor or not. Also May want to check and see if you have a transmission input and output sensor as well. these will also give you the same symptoms. Whatever it is, the transmission is not sending the speed signal to your ECU which is in turn not sending the right shift points until its too late causing the hard shifting and also since the ECU doesnt have a speed signal you may not get an odometer/speedometer reading (one or both may go out). Hope this gives you some direction. Good luck. Thanks for using fixya.

Where is the heater resistor on a 1996 buick century with a V6

You have to replace the blower motor. They don't use resistors anymore, each motor speed connects to a different spot on the motor windings to control the speed.

Inoperative speed sensor on a 1996 silverado K2500

There are two speed sensors, one is called an input shaft speed sensor and the other an output speed sensor. both control transmission but the out put also controls speedometer,

To replace any of these is not hard, they are bolted on the outside of transmission, you will remove the bolt holding them in and then they slide out, the input shaft speed sensor is located on the front left side of the transmission. the output speed sensor is located on the left side of the transfer case. good day

92 buick century when i start it up the idol goes way high like its going to blow put in drive it jerks and eats alot of gas

more then likely it is the IAC thats bad. clean or replace the IAC. more causes are--- erratic idle (including high idle speeds) can be caused by a faulty throttle position sensor (TPS) - a common problem. and check for a bad vacuum hose also. good-day ! clean IAC first ! to see if this helps then go from there.

Have an auto parts store check for the code. It is possible that you have a bad O2 sensor or your catalytic converter is clogged.

2001 Buick Century with code p1232 LF wheel speed sensor short or open. Have already replaced hub/sensor assembly, EBCM, and cut out old/spliced in redesigned harness as per tsb. Code continues to set...

wire going to sensor breaks inside the insulation the plug may look ok by looking at it but if you grab hold of one wire at a time right where they go into the connector on the wheel sensors and give a good tug. If wire pulls away from the connector then it means that the connector is bad and wire was broken behind the insulation
