Is it leaking at the rear of the engine if so try getting a rear main seal, but make sure it is 1 piece or 2 pieces.

First, correct any leaks on outside of engine. You would be surprised how much oil a drip can use up! If you have a 4.0 engine, make sure the valve cover isn't leaking. They use a plastic valve cover on these and sometimes in cold weather, they need to be re-tightened a bit. DON'T pull down too ******* these... the fasteners are small and WILL break if you really crank down on them!!!
Second, how much smoke is coming out of the tailpipe??? Use a good quality 10w30 oil, add marvel oil in place of one qt of engine oil... it will help clean insides. In an older engine, that "high mileage oil" is a good idea. It contains mild seal swelling additives that should slow down crank seal leaks somewhat.
Clean out the vent assembly that replaces the PCV valve. if clogged, it can force oil into the combustion chambers past valve guides and rings.
At 200K, you have to expect some extra oil consumption but if this happened all of a sudden it is likely from one or more of the above conditions!
Good Luck!!

Replaced the head on the motor...250000 miles on my daughter's 1999 Grand the mechanic says that he hears a knocking under the motor says she should just get a new car. Could the knocking be...

Lets review.
Replacing the head at 250k was probably not a good investment.
My advice has always been, if you need engine work at 200k or more, its time for another vehicle because the rest of the parts are still worn out. The normal life of a car or truck in the USA is 200k.

Usually a knocking sound means a rod or main bearing has failed. Which would require an engine overhaul to fix.
Black oil has nothing to do with the pump. The oil should be changed at 500 miles to remove any debris caused by replacing the head. That may fix the problem if there is junk floating around in the oil pan.
If the oil pump has failed, you would have very low oil pressure which would show up on a gauge.
It could cost you more to fix the knock that it did to replace the head.

What type of engine oil should i use for my 2002 jeep grand cherokee

I've had Jeeps for the past thirty years and in every one I use a good grade of synthetic oil. I generally run a 20w/50 but 10w 30 or 40 is fine. I use Amsoil because it lasts far longer than others do but any good name brand synthetic is fine (hint: Walmart synthetic is made by Quaker State and is just fine, you can change it at 4K -5K miles without problems.)
Always use a good quality filter...ones rated at the smallest micron filtration protect the best. Think of your oil filter as your kidneys. The better they are, the better you feel!!!

2003 grand cherokee with 153000 miles,,,with rear end repairs needed , is it worth the repair

I think its always worth the repair. I have a 99' F-150 with over 200,000 miles on it. I use it for work everyday(believe me she gets abused) and still going strong. Has at least another 100k miles left on her. Vehicles are going to need repairs, thats what happens, but if you do the maintenance that you should. Then your vehicle will last a very long time. A lot longer than 153k, thats for sure.

Life expentancy of 1996 grand jeep cherokee engine

If the engine doesnt smoke to much and if you dont have to add much oil between oil changes and you cant hear any unusal noises from the engine you should be able to run that car for many more miles. My dad has a 92 Jeep Cherokee and he over 300,000 miles on it and it still goes as long as you take care of it with regular oil changes you should have no problems
