2005 Toyota Transmission downshifts rough

My 2005 Toyota Camry with AT downshifts very roughly when it's coming to a stop (under 10mph). Less noticeable when engine is cold. It always downshifts twice as I'm coasting to a stop, both shifts are very rough. had transmission fluids changed twice thinking that was the problem. Mechanic reset an on board computer telling the system to "re-learn" when to shift, no change. Diagnostic computer at dealer shows no problems to be found. Car has 44,000 easy miles on it. All shifting up from a stop to driving speeds are fine.

Thanks for the feedback, the best I've gotten so far. I crawled under that area, but as you know, it's pretty crowded under there. I did see what appeared to be an area that several multi-pin connectors were plugged into on the right (nearest the passenger door) upper side. Am I looking in the correct area? Should I remove the glove box for a better look-see? The number on that device is: "ZR-227096".

I want to thank everyone who responded to me on this matter.  It ended up being a solenoid that controls the gears 1+2 which had gone bad. Toyota had issued a dealer alert a year ago advising dealers about this problem, thus it was covered under warranty. I haven't gotten the car back yet, but my confidence level is high that they have found the problem.

    Again, my heartfelt thanks.......

I will do so. Truth is, it's still in the shop. The mechanic put it all back together yesterday, and when they went to put the car into reverse, it started moving forward. They said they had never seen anything like that happen before. If they do not have it repaired tomorrow, I think a chat with the service manager is needed. I will keep you posted

2005 cts downshifts very hard but not all the time. One day runs great but the next day it doesn't, could the traction control have anything to do with it?

After one hour plus driving at highway speeds there is an occasional failure to downshift properly when exiting the highway and coming to a complete stop.

I hope they have it figured out. Theres a TSB for replacing the ECM for a harsh shift, TSB TC015-07... There is also a TSB that talks about a transmission solenoid problem. It doesnt say anything about a shifting problem, only that it causes a check engine light. It requires replacing the transmission, speed sensor, torque converter and the ECM. I hope it needs the trans solenoid, I wouldnt want a reman trans installed in my car if it wasnt necessary. Keep me updated.

Sounds like you need the updated engine computer for harsh shifting. Look up under the glove box at the computer. Number should be 89661-02K21 if not, you need the update. It is an 8/80 warranty item.

Is your car a Camry or Corolla? You posted in the Corolla section then said its a Camry. If it is a Camry, there is an update in the ECU programming which is an 8/80 warranty item also. If its a Corolla it needs the new ECU. Sorry for the confusion!!

Sounds like you might have a v6 engine. The only solution to this one is to replace the transmission. Google the car there is nothing but problems with the v6 transmissions if left unfixed it will leave u stranded be carefull

Rough transmission shifting around 25 mph under light acceleration in stop and go traffic at rush hour (2005 Toyota Camry V6 3.0L LE --- 130, xxx miles). What can be causing the rough shifting? It feels...

Unless there is a check engine light on it's not a solenoid or electronic control issue, it's hydraulic or mechanical.
Try changing the fluid and use the correct Toyota specified fluid or equivalent, Valvoline MaxLife is a good substitute.
If the drained fluid has any metal particles or friction material it's sign of deeper problems.

1989 toyota camry 232000miles Runs rough at idle

YOUR problem is the carby acc pump and idle jet ...... what you need to do is remove airfilter and take the top off the carby and you should see a small ball and spring under gasket ...when you open the throttle it will pump petrol to the small pick up jet and the other jet will take over ...clean out carby jets and rebuild and that should be ok
