O2 Sensor Locations V6 1999 Mercury Cougar

There are 4 Sensors--two upper and two lower on the exhaust manifold.
The engine is sideways--if you stand in front of the vehicle with the hood up and look at the oil dipstick--to the left of that is a plug--follow the wire toward the center of the vehicle--attached to the upper part of the exhaust manifold (location #1). If you draw a line directly across from the first O2 Sensor toward the firewall this is location #2 (remove distributor box and plug wires (Noting order) to access and replace. Lower (downstream) O2 Sensors are accessed by jacking the vehicle up and supporting. From #1 sensor which is on the left--if you look down following pipe on the right is O2 Sensor #3 repeat the same for #4 Sensor.

I hope this helps!

Will 02 sensors cause car not to run? chevy malibu 2003

I have seen many O2 sensors cause a vehicle to run poorly but I have yet to run into one that would cause a car not to run at all. So the answers is it is unlikely it's the O2 sensor.

Can you explain the problem you are having with a little more detail?

Some of the very first things when I get a vehicle that does not start (or run) is spark and fuel pressure. The two most common things to cause a vehicle not to start. Have you checked for either of these?

Get back to me on the answers to the questions and I'll do my best to help you get your vehicle running again.

This code keeps coming up we changed the o2 sensor and put new plugs and wires on. The truck is hesitating and seems to lose power going up hills and is now smoking. It is a 2004 chevy avalanche.

This could be due to the wrong O2 sensor, Bad Catalytic Convertor, EGR valve or something along those lines. Did you replace this with an OEM part and not have to change the wiring harness or did you have to change the wirings? The other most common issue is you changed it with a non-OEM product and the O2 sensor is not reading correctly. Check to make sure wires are hooked up correctly. Also not know the details of this vehicle it can be that you changed the wrong O2 sensor also, most vehicles have an O2 sensor before and after the Catalytic Convertor

1996 grand cherokee starts fine and runs great the first 5 minutes. Then it runs like ****..doesn't completely stall but runs really rough. Like it wants to stall but doesn't. Replaced the fuel pump and...

First thing is; When you changed the fuel pump, did you compare the 2 to see if they were identicle?, because it's possible that you could have the wrong fuel pump.. Second; you should have changed the fuel filter when you changed the pump, if not? you need to put a new fuel filter on... Third... It is possible for the upper o2 sensor, because on your Jeep, you have an OBD II system, which is, ( On Board Diagnostics II) and that system uses two "o2" sensors; One before the catalytic converter and one after the converter. The Primary o2 sensor is the one before the converter; The secondary o2 sensor, or catalyst monitor, is located after the catalytic converter.
The two o2 sensors work on an "open loop and closed loop". When the motor is cold, the o2 sensors are in open loop, which means they are not being used to monitor the exhaust gas, and when the motor warms up- after 5 minutes or so, then the computer switches to "Closed loop" and the o2 sensors are then used to monitor the exhaust gasses, so it is possible that your primary o2 sensor, or the one before the catalytic converter is bad.... But! It's very rare for both o2 sensors to go out at the same time.... I hope that answers your question & gives you an idea of how the o2 sensors work in conjunction with the fuel injection system.
