I have been having a hard time with starting my car, it takes a long time for it to crank on. I have spent so much money only to be stuck with the same problems. When I first go out in the morning to leave for work, it has a hard time cranking over but once on it runs just fine and smoothly. Then when I go home from work, same problems, wont crank over. I have been all over trying to get diagnositics done with zero luck. I went to one garage and they said I was getting now pressure from my fuel pump so I spent $300 for a new pump only to find out it did no good.
It has a hard time cranking over in the morning but once started runs fine. If I go into a store for say 15- a half hour, same thing, wont crank over smoothly. But, if I start it let it run or drive it, come home turn it off then immediately crank it over to start it again, it starts up just fine! I am at a loss here and dont want to or should I say cant spend anymore money trying to figure out the problem as I am going broke here. HELP!!! Also my check engine light has never came on at all through all this.

I have the same problem with my 2001 hyundai elantra. It is sluggish to start in the morning, but once it gets going, it is fine. I just spent 200.00 myself, and it didnt fix the problem. It makes me nervous, because when i go out first thing in the morning, it sounds like it might not want to start, but then it does. It almost seems as though it isnt getting enough gas into it to have a strong start.
hi from uk would like to help you do not say if diesel or petrol ? when you say it has hard time to crank over 1st thing ? are you meaning the starter is only turning slow? instead of spinning engine over fast as it did before this problem occured ? as this is 2003 5yrs old is the battery original ? because normal life is 2yrs warranty in uk ? i ask this because you say when started car runs ok and starts when warm this sounds like battery is faltering ie not holding charge hence 1st time starts will not provide full amperage to starter for turning engine quickly ? also if engine is diesel a good battery is paramount for starts from cold if engine is petrol then as previouse advise post by djmac62 suggests if it is long time since last ??service why not consider some DIY and change plugs/air filter and may i suggest you treat the fuel/tank/system to a dose of fuel injector /system cleaner ? this will clean all components related to fuel system cost in uk £4 for bottle redex however if you could e mail update on the above questions asked? would be glad to advise on any info you can further supply and above all save you $$$$ s with hopefully the correct diagnosis on problem best wishes for 2009 from n/west uk
when is the last time spark plugs were replaced? same for fuel filter? they are the cheapest things to start with and it sounds like thats your problem.
