2003 VW Golf Overheats

My son's 2003 VW Golf overheated on the Interstate today. He replaced lost coolant and drove a few miles more and it overheated again. Could it be the thermostat or something else?

Your radiator's core may be constricted with rust particles/debris. Clean and flush the radiator with a heavy duty cooling system cleaner. You'll need to remove the thermostat temporarily and follow the directions on the label.

if it overheats with a full radiator, then I would say head gasket. Waterpumps do not cause overheating unless they are leaking all the coolant out of the engine.

Sounds like you have coolant leak if you are loosing coolant or a bad thermostat. I would replace the thermostat, they run about $10. The other fan is an aux fan and will only run when the a/c unit is on.

Driving down interstate with car running fine. Then in my 2003 VW Golf the EPC light began flashing and I lost power. What do I need to look for?

the epc light is telling you that you have a feuling problem, get a mechanic to run a diagnostic scan to find the suorce, it should be only something small because the only dangerous light to look for is the oil light

VW Golf 2.0 is overheating after replacing thermostat.

there is a strong possibility that the impellers on the waterpump are broken!!!!. they are made out of plastic and are notorious for breaking. ck this first have seen it countless times. make sure new waterpump has metal impellers.
