I have had problems with my 1998 5-speed Firebird 3800. When I got the car it ran and sounded really cool...some non-car buff friends thought it had V-8 in it becuase it has a great deal of torque and power and the pipes sound really cool...but after I drove it two years it began having multiple cylinder missfires about every two months. I would change the plugs, wires, coil pack and everything and it would fix it and then the problem would return about every two or three months. I have almost lost friends because they preach at me to take it in to the experts but the experts simply replace the coils and wires, plugs and charge me about 100 times more than I can do it myself..and the same thing happens again anyway...it starts missing out and engine lights return and missfire codes show up again. You have to have a diagnostic test done. many autoparts stores will do this for free.

1992 firebird. 305 engine after warm up starts missing under acceleration

could be a overheating issue the gague may register that it is at correct temperature but maybe just a few degrees warm causing what is called vapor lock where the gas is getting to warm and is evaporating before it gets into intake worked on same car a few years back and it turned out that they removed the botom of fan shroud causing this particular problem if your shroud is all there also check any lines tubes or hoses that lead into your air intake.also check your plug wires if rubbing on manifold when gets hot could cause a short in spark causing misfire.any check engine lights appear in the dash?

1998 pontiac firebird coil pack, will coil make it miss on 1 cylinder, 3800 engine, misfiring, have changed plugs and wires

yes, it can happen. check for spark from the number one coil using spark plug wire and hold it near a grounded point. it should be a consistent spark with engine running. compare to different coil wire for verification. those coil packs are partially replace able because each coil fires two plugs. replace the no.1 portion with a new one from parts store. 28.00

Your computer on your firebird is logging a trouble code when the check engine light comes on. Save yourself some money and go to a local parts store to use a scanner. Most parts stores will hook up to your car for free and tell you the codes that are being logged. You can spend a lot of money assuming what parts may be malfunctioning by just throwing parts at your car. Check it first and you will be money ahead.
