Hi there. under your battery is the 4x4 actuator. there should be a vacuum hose that is connected to it. this actuator is the one that will lock your front diff in 4x4. this hose could fall off and you will not have 4 wheel drive without it connected. If that hose is connected, there is another hose which comes from the vacuum switch up the back of the engine and over toward the driver side of the engine compartment. it tees off and one end goes to a little resevoir on the engine hood. with the engine running, check to see if you have vacuum to this hose. also with thye engine running press the 4x4 switch and make sure that the actuator os working. the vacuum should **** the diaphram in and hold it in. If there is vacuum to the diaphram when 4x4 is engaged but the diaphram doesn't hold, you will need a new actuator. Hope this helps you.

1996 4x4 stuck on 4hi, push button lights are off and the fuse is good, how do i fix it to get it out of 4x4

you have to remove actuator motor on transfer case. easy to find because be a electrical plug going to it. its only couple bolts that hold it on. replace with new actuator. you have to make sure after removing actuator to turn the small shaft behind actuator on trans case back to 2 hi before installing new actuator motor. good luck

1998 GMC Jimmy...4x4 / transmission issues. It started a few weeks ago with poor acceleration above 2500-3000 rpm in any gear. The engine doesn't red line, but it the truck doesn't feel like it is...

Lets take this piece by piece.
The 4x4 switch is defective.
A driveline vibration regardless of engine speed is usually a shaft or cv joint. To verify a visual inspection is necessary.
The poor acceleration in any gear is the begining of torque converter problems( stator or pump). As long as ATF level is correct.
I recommend having a transmission repair shop look this over and preform a pressure test of the main line of the transmission.(it may not be necessary if the condition of ATF is burnt). Good luck
