my 93 jeep wrangler clutch is very hard and i can not push it in . It had done this several other times ,but now it won't go down at all what could be the problem?

  • steveg35 Feb 16, 2009

I have the same problem on 97 wrangler. I pushed the clutch into start, it started, Then I let it out to warm up, then when I went to shift into gear it kinda fell to the floor then sprung back up and now I can not push it in anymore. Master cylinder looks low but what is the correct level? It is down where the cylinder real starts to taper down.

Likely, you have a hydraulic clutch system. Check clutch master cylijnder for fluid and leakage, check hydraulic line and slave cylinder for leaks. If fluid low or empty, bleed as you would a brake wheel cylinder. If full, have someone work the clutch while you watch slave cylinder to make sure it is moving clutch fork. If system full and little or no movement, the master may be "bypassing" internally (replace) Also, check pedal mechanical linkage. Not often but sometimes these parts can break! Could also be athat clutch itself is worn, but this does not happen overnight and you would have noted slip long before this!

91 jeep wrangler YJ shifting problems

do you mean it wont go into gear ? if so what gears ? it could be the clutch going out , if the pedal is soft or easy to push down than it probably needs a clutch. next time it wont go into gear try pumping the clutch or putting it from 2nd to 1st or what ever gear it has problems with

Jeep YJ stalls while clutch is depressed

thrust bearings are bad and the flywheel is moving out of range of the crankshaft sensor, or the crankshaft sensor is sitting too close to the flywheel.

Replaced clutch with new clutch kit, but clutch still went out--- clutch pushes all the way down to floorboard and unable to change gears

Well, two possibilities. Clutch adjustment, or broken/bent parts. or #2

hydraulic issue (if yours is this type): prebleed master cylinder and then do not let it run dry again, or start over

I have a 1989 jeep wrangler. yesterday, after the stick shift felt stiff to shift, the clutch felt suddenly loose. Today, the stick shift stopped moving completely while i was driving. Finally, I was able...

Sounds like you are having a clutch problem. The sudden looseness in the clutch pedal indicates a problem with either the hydralic system, (slave or master or line) leaking or clutch pressure plate going out. Check your clutch fluid resevoir first, if low look for a leak under the vehicle, have a friend push the clutch and get underneath to find leak.

1993 Wrangler 4.0 Randomly My clutch pedal will not go in.

I can't remember if that year has a clutch master cylinder or not. Check to see if it does, it will be next to the brake master cylinder, and look like a single round silver dollar sized vesle. To the left of your brake master cylinder. check if its bone dry, if so refill it.

if this is not the case and it does not have a master cylinder, you need to check your clutch out.

My clutch pedal has no resistance and I can't shift gears...

If you have a hydraulic clutch, it is conceivable that the fluid has leaked out. For areas of leakage check up under the dash where the clutch master comes through the firewall., or check down at the transmission at the clutch slave, which is the small cylinder on the transmission. You should also fill the reservoir immediately as well.

If yours is the adjustable type of clutch, then you need to have it ajusted immediately
